We highly recommend David as an architect - he is considerate, thorough, supportive and very professional. He expertly designed our rear extension and we are delighted with it. David understood our brief and came up with some great ideas to create a flexible family space including a spacious utility room, bright open plan dining kitchen, small art studio and an outdoor terrace. The builders he recommended were also an excellent and skilful team. We are really enjoying our new improved home!

Couldn’t recommend Liston Architects more. David came in during the pandemic and did everything he could to listen to our needs and design a plan that was both within our budget and the limitations of our home. He was quick to reply to my requests/emails/messages (big or small) and turned over the plans/applied for planning etc in a short space of time. When it came to the drafting of the plans - he provided us with a couple options, applying his experience to each. He was able to use helpful tools that allowed us to visualise the space and light in the options that he designed. David was extremely helpful in the planning process - addressing the councils questions quickly and with practical alternatives. We were faced with a difficult neighbour and David did his best to work within the deed of conditions and the planning rules to make sure it didn’t get rejected. David set out the costs upfront with us, which allowed us to plan and assess what we could/should do. He even provided costing and timetables - which was very helpful too. During the building phase - David came through to visit the site and the builders a number of times which I appreciated. I can highly recommend David for his professional skill, his responsiveness and overall friendly personality. Thank you for creating our dream kitchen diner and can’t wait to start the next phase.

We had an excellent experience working with David Liston. We were extending into our attic and knocking together rooms to make a kitchen downstairs. At the same time we converted our garage into an office. He came up with some very creative solutions to make the most of the space upstairs which made for a lovely airy bedroom, and came up with a great layout for the kitchen. He project managed the whole thing, found us a great builder, advised on cost effective flooring from his experience on another house and the project finished on budget and on schedule. Altogether I would highly recommend.

I would recommend David to anyone, we had an extension and full refurb of our Victorian main door flat. The outcome was astounding and beyond my expectations, he not only worked with me and my family and listened to us he took the pressure away during the actual build. He as always onsite working with the builders constantly problem solving. I have a son who is a wheelchair user, and two other children. I hate equipment and accommodation that looks what I can only describe as 'special needs'. David took all of this into account and we ended up with a beautiful, modern, hi spec accesible property. I am currently on the lookout to move and David has assisted me again with advice on potential properties. I couldn't ask for more!

David supported us on some extensive renovations and an extension on our house - taking the project from feasibility to close out with all stages in between. I discovered David as he had designed a beautiful extension for a friend. He’s an incredibly talented designer - our extension has a relatively small footprint but has transformed the look and feel of our house- without encroaching on our garden. David’s solution was an incredibly efficient use of space and not anything I would have considered without him. David was incredibly pleasant to work with - he’s calm, and pragmatic and great at finding solutions. He strikes a great balance of listening and interpreting our requirements and challenging us when we were heading in the wrong direction. He obviously has some good relationship and understanding of the planning authorities and was able to navigate the process smoothly. I also appreciated the role that David undertook during construction. It was a huge comfort having his supervision during build - as he identified and resolved issues quickly with the builder. But also because he removed the need to deal directly with the builder on any potentially contentious issues - which definitely reduced the potential for stress. Our house is absolutely stunning- David suggested some beautiful glazing that makes out home a very unique and liveable space. I would recommend him without hesitation.

The project was completed in March 2018. Liston Architects were responsible from the beginning of the project for design and planning application through to project management and building warrant completion. The project involved a full restoration of the old parts of a cottage, with internal and external alterations. Liston Architects did a great job throughout, and the result achieved all the objectives originally set out.

We used Liston Architects for the reconfiguration of our top floor to create a new layout of rooms with removal of existing walls and installation of a new wall and velux. David provided an excellent service, from initial discussions and generation of ideas, through to all the stages of the building process. This involved the building warrant application, appointment of builders, liaison with the team and checking on work/progress throughout, and follow up through to obtaining our completion certificate. He made the process stress free and communication was excellent throughout. He also clearly understood what we wanted from the project and provided us with a variety of ideas to consider, all very professionally presented Excellent, thoroughly recommend his professional services

We have used David’s services twice - to renovate our New Town flat and then, when we moved a few years later, to design a tricky structural landscaping project. Both times he worked closely with us and with the planning authorities to realise our ambitions as smoothly as possible. Friendly, creative and knowledgeable - we would certainly use him again.

David masterminded the whole renovation of my house, which involved extensive reconfiguration. He seemed to always be able to guess what would work and what I had in mind, even when I wasn't sure myself! And he was excellent liaising with the builders. David has carried out two major jobs for us. We were so happy with his remodelling of our double upper flat in Edinburgh that we turned to him again when we moved to a detached period property in The Borders. The house had suffered from some very bad treatment which resulted in a claustrophobic and annoying layout, and a lot of poky dark spaces. We asked David to help us simplify the rooms and resolved the layout issues; his plans increased the light in the house the ease of navigation. We converted it from a 7 bed / 1 bath nightmare into a really pleasing and liveable 3 bed / 3 bath house. The works were significant (4 months) but the results were all we hoped for. David project managed as well as designing, and handled the entire planning process from application to sign off.

I highly recommend David who designed and supervised the best conversion of a dark downstairs chicane of walk-in cupboards to a bright airy corridor, one side of which is floor to ceiling storage cubicles, with laundry room and a shower room on the opposite side. He listened to all our requests and had suggestions to suit all our requirements. We were also pleased with his recommendation of builder and that he could supervise the job. We were delighted from start to finish. A real professional !
