This review will be a little bit different than the rest because it comes from another pro. We are a small construction company and we completed a project with RHJB in the autumn last year and it has been one of the most professional and pleasant working experience for us. We deal with a lot of clients, professionals and a lot of architects throughout our day to day business but if I have to be truly honest RHJB have been by far the best and most organised architectural practice I have ever had to work with. Their approach is so professional yet so friendly and humble that you rarely find with other architects. We worked with Richard and Leila on our project that they designed and the attention they had put in every detail and every drawing is out of this world. Although we’ve had some challenges on the project Richard and Leila were super understanding and kind throughout the entire process. All of this was extremely helpful for us builders to make sure the work gets done as best as possible. without a question RHJB are the ones you should work with if you want the ultimate experience with no stress and worry that something might go wrong on your project. Certainly we do hope that we will work with RHJB on more projects in the future because professionals like this are hard to find. Thank you, Richard and Leila for the awesome experience.

I worked with RHJB on my project which included a side extension, re-designing / renovating the ground floor and building a new garden room. RHJB worked on the project throughout and were engaged in stages, from the initial design all the way to the construction and contract administration. I had no experience of a large-scale renovation/building project and my prior experience of taking on renovation work on a smaller scale had not been positive, so I started the whole process unsure how to go about it. From the initial call with Jonathan, to working with Richard and Leila, RHJB took the time to listen, address my concerns and understand how my family and I used the space and what we wanted to achieve. The communication was very transparent and RHJB ensured that I had a solid understanding of what was happening during all stages of the project. When decisions were needed Richard and Leila took time to lay out different options ensuring that practical considerations like time, costs/budgets and outcomes were clearly documented and understood. Throughout the project I heavily relied on Richard and Leila's technical guidance, design input and organisational skill set (especially Leila's) and recognise this went a long way to making the project a success. The new space suits our needs perfectly. I would gladly work with RHJB in the future if I take on a new project and would highly recommend them.

Worked with RHJB on a stunning New build from start to finish. Richard and Leanne worked closely along side our team to help produce a spectacular modern family home. RHJB’s Attention to detail was something that stood out and worked along side our work ethos in harmony. Sometimes, us as Principle contractors did doubt the idea or vision but…. Richard has designed an amazing house for us. We set the brief to create a place that felt boutique hotel, seaside and fun and he delivered above and beyond on every aspect. Now we have finished it looks just like the computer images generated for us to understand the original design intent. We couldn’t be happier.

Working with Richard and Leila was a real pleasure. We approached them with a broad concept and felt they listened and understood our requirements from the very beginning. Subsequently, they floated new creative ideas that opened up other avenues we hadn't considered many of which we built into our final concept. This included novel ways of using existing space, whilst creating an extension that unified old and new parts of our home, all whilst bringing lots of natural light in. They were patient with our questions and were able to explain our proposals in depth, with plans and images that really helped us understand what was possible. What I hadn’t considered previously which was key (and saved me a major headache!) was them being able to engage the local planning authority, seeking to maximise our scheme as far as possible. It was brilliant to receive the approval after all their hard work and we can’t wait to get our scheme up and running….could not recommend highly enough!

Jonathan was very helpful and approachable in discussing our project. Whilst we quickly established our project wasn’t going to be a great fit for RHJB due to it being too small, instead of dismissing me, Jonathan was very helpful in talking through why they probably aren’t best placed and gave actionable insight to what we can do to progress our project. Through the conversation and quality of material shared it’s obvious RHJB only take on the right projects and therefore make sure it’s a success for all parties. Whilst we didn’t proceed with RHJB I would reach out them for future projects or recommend them to others. It’s a rare trait to help customers who aren’t right for you.

We are extremely happy with the service we have received from RHJB Architects so far. RHJB listened to our needs resulting in a tailored design which provides modern solutions to compliment and enhance our 1930s home. Richard and the team at RHJB worked on reconfiguring and extending our 1970’s detached house. From the outset Richard listened to our requirements as a family and incorporated these along with his own ideas and architectural insight to come up with a stunning contemporary design, which met all of our needs and more. Through the whole design process Richard adapted the design to our changing requests, offering advice and alternatives. We choose RHJB because of their ability to manage a project from start to finish: from design, to planning permission, to carrying out the tender process all the way through to managing the project to completion. The team’s knowledge and experience helped in managing the relationship with the builder and took away the apprehension and stress we feared would be part of the process. Richard and his team’s attention to detail was excellent and we now have a home, which has exceeded the expectations we had when we embarked on this project.

We worked closely with Jonathan and his technician Luke through the concept, planning and most recently detailed design process for extension and remodelling of our 1960’s family home. We have messy layout at present and Johnathan interpreted our brief fantastically to come up with a balanced contemporary update to our home but with it remaining in keeping with the area. Even in the refinement of the design Jonathan shared his views but was always happy to listen and make our requested changes work rather than push his vision alone. We are now itching to get started on the build and live in a fantastic modern home RHJB have designed for us.

My wife and I interviewed several architects at the outset a complicated renovation/extension project and were both quickly impressed by Jonathan Butler and Richard Hobden. They showed a genuine interest in the challenges presented by our building's design, history and location and their portfolio of completed domestic extensions and renovations was consistent with our ideas for our project. They showed a sensitivity to the details and commitment to winning the business that we didn't see in the others we considered, making the decision to work with them an easy, obvious choice. Our job is still underway and rife with challenges, not least making the best possible use of the limited space we have, and RHJB has delivered a plan that will help us realise the potential of our space both for day-to-day living and the longer-term enhancement of its value. Jonathan and Richard have been a pleasure to work with throughout and we would recommend them without hesitation to anyone with an extension, renovation or new home-build project.

From the very beginning, RHJB Architects have been fantastic to work with. We came to them with a lot of our own suggestions and an overall idea of what we thought we wanted, however, the concept put forward far exceeded anything we could imagine. We originally wanted to extend across the back of the house, but through working with Richard and the rest of the team, we were able to unlock the full potential of the house and garden by extending to the side. We were guided through the whole process with regular updates. RHJB were extremely proactive and instrumental throughout the whole planning permission process, potentially saving us months in wait times... and of course the stress. We highly recommend.

Richard was so helpful from the every start. I feel the most important part of success is the relationship you build with your team. Richards communication was impeccable- he would explain things in layman terms, broaden my horizons and tell me the good as well as the bad. I trusted him implicitly. The outcome being that we got just want we wanted. It’s sometimes difficult for a lay person to visualise and explain what they want but with patience and time we got exactly what we were looking for :)

Really happy with the standard of work, especially while under the difficult circumstances of lockdown. Drawings and computer modelling were great and planning permission passed first time.

Richard, Jonathan and their team are an absolute pleasure to work with on all fronts. Architecturally, their design work is always fresh and it's backed up by solid technical experience and knowledge. On top of that, they are just nice guys to work with, easy to talk to and accessible. As a fellow consultant, there can be pressure to say nice things in reviews like this but this is genuine sentiment. I can't recommend them highly enough.

We used Richard and the guys to help redesign our down stairs as well as two bedrooms upstairs. They really helped us understand what was possible and presented a number of options to us. The best part for us was that they understood that we wanted something practical and stylish which I believe they delivered. They were always on hand to talk us through the designs as well as giving us guidance through the tender process.

RHJB created plans for the refurbishment of the hallway and a kitchen area of my house. The plans and drawings submitted were creative and in keeping with the age of the house (200 years +) . RJH visited the house initially, agreed the scope and nature of the project, discussed and reviewed their ideas as a follow up and eventually produced final submissions for the prospective builder. The work started in September and was completed before Christmas last year. The outcome has transformed the the internal feel for the house and greatly improved the external look of the house. I am extremely grateful to RJH for their professional approach, their creativity and their understanding of the customer needs.

RHJB architects were commissioned by us last year to design a new family space at the rear of our property. We needed to reconfigure the space and RHJB were excellent in providing intuitive ways to make best of our space in a modern way whilst being considerate of the property’s older style. We were particularly impressed with their suggested use of materials with a mix of wood and metal for external finishes, their design also introduced a lot of light into the property which was previously lacking. We found them to be very professional throughout the project

From day 1 of meeting Jon and Rich of RHJB we knew this duo was special... from a quick chat about looking at our project, they took it further and showed us how we could bring our whole space to life, unlocking previously unseen potential. Their creative thinking, space planning and detailing gave us the confidence to make a far bigger investment in change than we had ever envisioned - and we're creatives! They went on to help us plan and deliver the project for a budget that transformed our whole office. It has made a real difference to the teams that work here and the clients that visit. We engaged RHJB to remodel the interior and design a substantial kitchen;diner extension to our 6000sqft 1900s house, bringing together a disparate collection of relatively boxy rooms into a modern space suitable for 21st century family life. Particularly impressive was the way in which they liaised with the planning authority, smoothing through what could very easily have been a contentious design with seeming effortlessness (at least from our perspective - I'm sure the realities were more taxing!). It became apparent throughout the course of the design process that (due to a change in personal circumstances) we would have to phase the project, and the way in which RHJB coped with the challenging task of splitting out works to be done now and later was massively helpful. The entire team were fantastic from start to finish, displaying a rare combination of technical competence, deep domain expertise, and down to earth relatability. Finding design professionals with whom you can have a normal conversation is something of a rarity, but these guys achieve it with aplomb. We wouldn't hesitate to use RHJB again, and have alreay recommended them to many of our friends. Top, top people.

After a lot of deliberation and research we decided to use RHJB Architects. We were particularly impressed by their proactivity and 'can-do' attitude. Their understanding of what we wanted and their fresh ideas was exactly what we wanted. It is great to work with such proactive people and we wholeheartedly recommend them.

Designed a Garden Room extension to the back of a 1960s house in a 20th Century Conservation Area to create an 'integrated living' feel to the ground floor including taking the kitchen into this space. The Architects worked collaboratively with us, taking the design through the Planning process, producing detailed tender documents to enable us to select an appropriate builder. Remaining in the background but available to support us during the construction period.
