Studio MUTT

Studio MUTT is an award-winning architecture practice in Liverpool established by Graham Burn, James Crawford and Alexander Turner in 2017. The studio’s exciting and innovative proposals have brought international media coverage and invited exhibitions from Milan to Mexico, via London and Liverpool. We work at all scales, from a teapot to a tower, and are driven by an ambition to make everyday life better. We draw inspiration and ideas from urban, historical and social analysis to create characterful projects which are unique and joyful. We do not have a set stylistic response, preferring to allow each project to respond to its specific site, brief and client requirements. Studio MUTT believes in engaging with the world as it exists - rejecting the concept of radical newness, instead adopting referencing and sampling as a design solutions to contemporary issues. We develop projects through a range of media, from drawings to films, models to prototypes, and this approach is translated in to built form through the use of unexpected and re-imagined materials. Our work seeks to use the extremely familiar to create the perfectly peculiar. Each director of Studio MUTT has worked for some of the UK’s most renowned practices, equipping them with the required technical knowledge to successfully deliver projects of a high build quality. Projects which MUTT members have been involved in include the delivery of dRMM’s Stirling Prize nominated Trafalgar Place, Sky Health & Fitness Centre and The 2012 Olympic Athlete’s Village and AHMM’s BBC Television Centre, Barns Road Residential Project in Oxford and 1 Finsbury Avenue commercial offices. Graham, James and Alexander are registered architects and MUTT is an RIBA Chartered Practice.
