When I bought my house I decided to re-decorate but the scale of the project was slightly intimidating. I wanted a beautiful and personal design but there are so many ideas out there that I didn’t know where to start. I came across Sophie Louisa Interiors whilst searching the web for various designs. I hesitated for a while before contacting Sophie as I’d never worked with an interior designer before and wasn’t sure what to expect and whether I could even afford such services. I ended up contacting her anyway and I couldn’t have been happier about it now. Sophie was quick to respond and we made arrangements for an initial consultation. I’ve never looked back and kept calling upon Sophie’s vast experience and impeccable taste ever since. She is very professional, friendly, approachable and always opened to the new ideas. Even more importantly, she always listens to what I envisaged for my house but she also always give me her professional advice. Our project will be coming to an end in a few months’ time and I can already see that the final result will be stunning. I would recommend Sophie to my friends, colleagues and anyone who wants to transform their homes into something really special.

Caroline/Adam, BARC could not have been more professional or competent in how they approached our residential extension project…. They successfully transformed our verbal muddled vision into a masterpiece! I cannot praise Caroline’s thoughtfulness and understanding of how as a family we needed the space to be designed around our current and ever changing future needs. Finally, not only are they terribly good at what they do they are also a pleasure to work with! Which in such an emotive area - is absolutely key. Although we got as far as being granted planning permission we did not get to break ground– having decided to move into to our “forever home”. We cannot wait to get them back to work with us on our new home..

Bazeley's eye for detail is faultless. They seem to have a knack of transforming spaces into real design pieces, and this has been recognised by the numerous awards they have received over the years. They have also recently signed up to the Architect in the House scheme - http://www.architectinthehouse.org.uk/ - which supports the Shelter charity for the homeless, showing their dedication not only to their immediate work, but also to the wider community.

JBA worked on a total revamp of my home in London as architect, project manager and less officially, interor's adviser (the interior space was part of the architecture - I also sought his advice on colour schemes etc.) James from JBA worked with my ideas to make them oh so much better. He has a great asthetic eye yet is keen to keep things practical and user-friendly. For my house we totally remodelled the inside to modernise it. I had some basic ideas as to how I'd like the new layout to be and I was keen on keeping costs down and reusing things where possible. JBA really impressed me with the use of space and light that they came up with. A few examples of things where they added style, innovation and practicality are: had the idea to use the treds from my old spiral staircase as the living room bookshelf & some of the old floorboards that we took up are now shelves in the new linen cupboards. I had an idea that I'd like a fish tank in the house somewhere and he suggested using it as the splashback/ separator between the newly created kitchen/ living room space. Added internal windows to optimise light at all levels. Where I have a strange curved walled on the bottom floor, he fashioned something to reflect that on the opposite stair-encasement. . .people comment on the 'lines' all over the house.. I would never have thought of 'lines'. It's essentially the house I wanted but it looks so much better that I could ever have dared hope for. I had not thought that having the architect manage the build would make much difference but it was amazing how many things the builders missed each day from his design and he had to hop in to remind them. He seemed to have a great raport with the various tradesmen and the whole project came in bang on budget.
SVA Architects Exeter

Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars7 April 2022
I would highly recommend SVA Architects of Exeter. Steve Varney made some excellent suggestions for our extension and the finished job looks fantastic. Better that we had hoped and well under our original budget. SVA Architects handled everything from initial design through Full Planning and Building Regs applications seamlessly. I have used a number of architects over the years, having once build our own home along with several office buildings and SVA are head and shoulders above them all!

We would highly recommend Maria's services having been impressed with the quality and professionalism of her work in association with our 2-storey side extension. Her attention to detail and communication were impeccable throughout the project. Maria's design suggestions during the planning stage were excellent and practical, improving significantly on our own initial ideas. She navigated us through the planning approval and tendering stages smoothly and we were very confident in employing her project management skills during the building stage, which was duly delivered to schedule and on budget. We could not have been in better hands!

I am working with Honka on a chalet project in Cornwall and they have been extremely professional throughout the process. 3D visuals and 2D drawings have been produced at all stages and for all changes made so that we have been able to ensure that the building will meet our requirements. Choice of fixtures, fittings and finishes has been made clear and samples have been produced on request. The delivery and building program are on time and, as the cost is fixed, on budget. Excellent!

Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars15 August 2018
I had a great result from working with Lawrence on my basement flat extension and outhouse building project. Lawrence understood the brief fully and undertook detailed plans that were clear and representative. The whole experience was very collaborative, especially on the design and planning process. Lawrence handled all of the planning application and saved me a lot of time and worry about this. The result is a highly attractive, modern, yet complimentary extension and outhouse and I could not recommend him more.

Our starting point was deciding we needed to re-build our 1950’s single skin, add-on extension. ( The kitchen was colder than in the fridge in winter!) It also needed to sit well with our old cob house. Phil was great as he helped us remodel both our design ideas, as well as our new extension. Phil guided us through a process that we had already done a lot of thinking about. He set us tasks to consider our design, sketching ideas, looking at materials and finishes. As a result, we covered a wall with images, drawings and colours. He then took the ideas we had, developed, improved and enhanced them…definitely a more elegant solution! Phil had the ability to find answers to problems that actually added to the design, e.g., our glazed end truss and the window tray enabling a higher ceiling height. He was also great fun to work with. He helpfully answered streams of questions from first time self-builders (that must sometimes have been blindingly obvious to him), with patience, helpful diagrams and many cups of tea! Working with an architect is a partnership, one where listening and understanding is key for both parties. Our advice…pick an architect you can relate too and enjoy working with. They will probably provide solutions that challenge your thinking, but more importantly for us, build on, and improve your own ideas.
