At Hugh Miller Furniture, we combine the hand of the craftsman with the eye of the architect. Specialising in gallery-standard contemporary furniture in wood, we design and construct pieces of exceptional quality for clients throughout the UK, and around the world. The studio has developed a unique and recognisable design language, heavily influenced by our founder’s research studies in Japan. This Eastern influence is combined with an architectural, rigorous attention to detail, which creates an aesthetic that is at once familiar and unusual. Our portfolio has a number of facets: the Furniture Collection is a range of exquisite pieces with a DNA influenced by Japanese design principles; our Special Collections contain a range of modern classics; and finally Bespoke Commissions are pieces of heirloom quality cabinetry, that are one-off creations that achieve the most specific of client requirements. The materials we use span from the familiar to the unusual. British timbers are selected by hand, and combined with materials such as Japanese bamboo, marine-grade brass, and Japanese sumi calligraphy ink. These materials illuminate the duality of cultural influences that underpin the studio. Put simply, we make furniture without compromise.
