“I know how stressful it is finding and contractor, so I wanted to share my experience with others so that they can make a more informed decision. When we decided to tear down and rebuild our home in Kaimuki, we met with five contractors. All of them had great ideas but each were different in their approach – some more pushy, a few seemed too busy or apathetic, and only one was real down to earth and made us feel like they had our best interest at heart – Atlas. For example, the Project Manager (Nathan) was very concerned about keeping us within our budget so that our mortgage payments would be manageable as opposed to building a house that would maximize the contract price (it seemed that way with some of the other contractors). What also really impressed us were all the complimentary comments that were made by their clients during our site visit to other projects that were in progress or competed. Their vendors and subs thought very highly of them too! They accommodated every request we had, allowed us to build the home we wanted (not according to their specifications), and were transparent about the process, costs (no mysterious change orders or nickel and diming), and timeline. They treated our Project as if it were their own and provided us recommendations during the design AND BUILD process. To those looking for someone to build their dream home, my recommendation would be the same: Find someone you feel comfortable with because there are so many decisions to be made from beginning to end and you want a partner that you can trust that will help guide you and also be fair with you when the inevitable obstacles occur (which it will). We love the home they built for us two years ago and are glad we picked a contractor that was a pleasure to work with. Atlas built our home and a lasting relationship with my family as well. To this day, if I ever need any assistance or advice for my home (solar, new fence, leaking washer), I can pick-up the phone and call Bruce (the owner) and he sends someone right away to kokua.”

“Highly recommend! Pacific Precision Builders is thorough, detailed, punctual, affordable and efficient from beginning to end. We went through the process with them of building and designing our home from the ground up and we could not be happier with the results. All of the staff are extremely knowledgeable in their respective fields. I especially appreciated the design help as that is not my forte. Their design specialist met with us several times and continued to research out options until we found the perfect combo for layout and materials. The building & install phase was fast and went smoothly, dovetailing perfectly with plumbing & electrical subcontractors. These guys know their stuff!”
KNA Construction & Painting

Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars5 April 2017
“Today, 5 Apr 2017, KNA Construction and Painting finished a 7 week job that entailed a total tear down and then rebuild of our second floor deck. My wife and I are extremely happy with their work, professionalism and Aloha. This project was initially going to be just 8 days to replace some fascia that had wood rot, to install flashing and reinforce our railings. But, as the work began, it became clear we had a big problem. Because of this, the deck had to go through a thorough breakdown and rebuild as band aid fixes to keep cost down wasn’t an option as the deck was an accident waiting to happen. This wasn’t easy for KNA as they had other jobs scheduled, but, they did a little magic by managing their time very well and really came to my rescue. Now, I’ve been a homeowner for over 30 years and had my fair share of working with a lot of contractors…expensive contractors in which the majority of them, their work did not reflect what I paid for. With KNA, their costs was reasonable and their work was outstanding! What stands out for me in working with KNA is the role of the General Contractor and the outstanding men who work for KNA. First, the General Contractor, Ben, is involved in every aspect of the job and kept me abreast of the job while also recommending areas of importance. His expertise was invaluable as a lot of his initial concerns on the deck have been shown to be true. Both Ben and his men's enthusiasm and love for their job is evident everyday by how they explain what they are doing and the importance on why they are doing it a certain way. They are focused on doing the best job possible. Their work ethics is a reflection of their boss, Ben. When Ben first came out to my home he immediately noted the wood rot and made it clear he can't determine the extent of the wood rot until they start to remove a couple deck boards to install flashing. He also voiced his concerns how the deck was originally waterproofed and stated how he believes decks such as mine should be done and explained why. He also made some key recommendations to improve the safety of the deck and to make it more efficient such as: 1. He noted the railings of the deck was a safety concern due to the wood rot. 2. He noted how they could divert water to our gutter system in an area where water falls freely and adds to the flooding we get during heavy rain beneath the deck. 3. Because of flooding we get during heavy rain, Ben, extended the deck outward by a foot so it will overlap our lower deck. This is extremely helpful in that the water runoff does not fall directly on our concrete beneath the deck where it pools/floods, but, rather the water falls onto our lower deck which is built over a downward slope. 4. He recommended sidings to be used underneath the deck as an option to hide the joists, hurricane clips, bolts etc. During the course of this job, we went through three revisions to our contract due to the extensive wood rot. The extensive wood rot was found to be due to flashing not installed, the majority of the deck was not sloped for water runoff, plywood used was only 1/2 inch thick and not the required 3/4 inch thick (the plywood also had wood rot). The total cost for this project was just slightly more than what I paid for with another contractor 11 years earlier and the work and the look of the deck is 100% better…it’s like night and day---KNA is simply awesome. A quick note-when the sidings were recommended to hide the joists, Ben mentioned that this would also be a good time to also add some lighting. KNA cut out the holes for the lighting and the only additional cost to me was the buying of the lighting fixtures, everything else was within the budget. Here’s probably the most important point of this review…KNA treated my home as if it were their own! His recommended changes didn’t add much to our budget. Ben’s key recommendations not only made my home safer and more efficient...it actually enhances the look of our home A LOT! In closing, I'm extremely impressed with KNA Construction and Painting…My only regret is I didn’t find them years ago! KNA is my first choice from here on! To Ben, Julio, Miquel and one other fantastic worker whose name unfortunately escapes me right now, MAHALO and ALOHA!”
