House by Mia

Mia has been instrumental in enabling us to create a stylish but fun, highly usable kitchen / dining / family living area and in elevating the main staircase and entrance hall to our house from non-descript to design-led, through use of colour and careful attention to detail (like beautiful switches and sockets, as well as lighting choices and fabrics). We could not have achieved the coherence - and personality - that we wanted for our home without Mia’s vision, knowledge of materials and suppliers and momentum. Thank you Mia and Lisa!

Mia was a pleasure to work with from the get go. She carried out a consultation with me for two rooms in my house and, whilst it was a relatively a small job, she gave it the utmost care and attention. She helped me visualise how to best use the office space in my spare room, designing two options and sourcing potential items. She also advised on how and where to best place my artwork. For my bathroom, she helped me think about space, storage and colours - all the extra bits I needed to bring a very grey space to life. Even though it was a small project, I found the thought of managing it alone quite daunting. Mia gave me the best advice - she said to do it bit by bit and not to wait to find every single item before making a start. She was right! Bit by bit it’s all coming together. Having worked on this project together, I’d love to get her involved in designing other parts of our home. She was great and I’d highly recommend her.

It was a pleasure working with Mia. From the start of the project Mia was positive and had loads of ideas. Mia listened to our likes and dislikes and understood how we wanted to elevate our space totally. Friendly and warm, Mia also alleviated any design concerns we may have had. Mia supplied us with concepts for our cloakroom, front door/porch treatment, bedroom joinery, and kitchen tiling. Mia was easy to chat to - listened to and understood our ideas, and suggested various options that we wouldn't have previously considered. A curated list of alternative options/suppliers has been very helpful, and we are looking forward to starting work on the renovations!

We used Mia to help us with design ideas for our master bedroom. We found her highly responsive to initial messaging and very helpful on the day of our appointment. She gave us loads of ideas that we were very pleased with. No hesitation recommending her for any project however big or small.

Mia and her team did a complete refit of my bathroom in Spring 2024 and I'm really pleased with it. The designs were very beautiful and thoughtful, and the work has been done to a very high standard. The team communicated really well throughout the process and were very attentive when it came to fixing a couple of minor snags at the end of the work.

Mia brought her wealth of knowledge and experience to our project. She was able to incorporate our own very strong ideas of what we wanted and add a whole load of appropriate, stylish, fun and practical elements to create a really beautiful extension, kitchen and bathroom which we will enjoy for many years. In addition to this, Mia and Lisa connected us with structural engineer, builders and suppliers, and took care of sourcing and ordering, planning permission and building control, etc etc.

It was great to work with Mia on our Kitchen and living room renovation. We are so happy with our wonderful family space and with the balance of design and function that we were able to achieve together.

I had a brilliant experience with Mia who helped us choose the paint schemes for our new house. But it is also vitally informative and most people would be lost without this professional support. Mia gave me astonishingly detailed advice on all the design options: from floorplans and 3D visualisations, to materials, colours, lighting ideas, and lists of suppliers I'd never have found or known about otherwise. Having someone there to hold your hand, answer your questions, provide you with insights and help you articulate your style and aesthetics, is invaluable, and Mia and Lisa are superb professionals who do this cheerfully and with a genuine understanding of your needs, and where you want to end up. Don't try a major refurb by yourself: you need help, and House by Mia is the place to get it.

Mia and Lisa were professional, patient and caring. From the start Mia helped to take the burden of project managing the large project of converting our top floor from one pokey bedroom to two double bedrooms and a large bathroom. We came up against quite a few problems in our long build, but Mia and Lisa were always on hand to help and sort as much as possible! We now have a beautiful, light, functional top floor, which has transformed the house.

Mia is very warm and approachable and communicates clearly and calmly. Her help in designing a new bathroom has been invaluable. She worked out 2 possible layouts for the rather limited space available, working in some storage space too, sourced and suggested bathroom fittings and furniture while keeping an eye on cost. Mia really brought our dreams to life when redesigning our loft conversion. Previously one whole room with a separate bathroom, Mia helped design our space into a double bedroom ensuite and a separate dressing room. We wanted the look and feel of a deluxe contemporary hotel room with an air of relaxation and decadence that reflected our personal tastes. We wanted functional and organised space for our clothing and a space to dress. Mia achieved our brief above and beyond. Her vision for a space and her interior design tastes and knowledge of products and makers are impeccable and she achieved the impossible - getting my partner and myself to agree to the same design choices and style! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mia and would love to work with her again in the future if I get the opportunity to redesign or redecorate another space in our house.

We needed a solution for lighting in a problem room. Mia was excellent - she listened to what we wanted, discussed solutions with us and sent us a plan to work from. She was really quick and efficient and we are so grateful for her help.

When we first decided to do a kitchen extension on our home, we were totally overwhelmed with designing the space and the countless decisions we’d have to make and agree on. Neither my husband nor I have talents around design and we were worried that we’d end up dissatisfied with the space and regret our decisions. Finding Mia was a life saver. She supported us through every step of the process and lifted a huge weight off our shoulders. She listened to what we wanted out of the space and our preferences and helped us optimise the room to meet all of our needs. She also heard our thoughts on colours and styles to help us pin down the perfect combinations that we both loved. I think particularly helpful, was having a knowledgeable sounding board for our many questions. Maybe others have family and friends who have the skills and patience to answer countless questions such as, “I found this on Pinterest, do you think it’d work in my kitchen?” – but we did not! That’s where Mia stepped in, giving really helpful and honest counsel about our many ideas, what would work and what wouldn’t. Mia was endlessly patient and accommodating, and would reply quickly to our many emails. In the end, we’re so happy with the results. As we’ve been experiencing so much confinement, it really does make a difference to have such a lovely space to spend time in together as a family. We’d wholeheartedly recommend Mia!

Mia has helped us with a bedroom, bathroom and hallway refurb. Through initial consultations she teased out our likes and needs and a good understanding of what we wanted to achieve. She then translated that into options we talked through further before agreeing on a way forward. Mia was so helpful. I got in touch about a challenging bathroom with sloped ceilings, which made it difficult to know where to start! Mia is positive and embraced the challenge. Having moved to a new house we were a bit stuck on the best way to design our new bathroom, the best way to use the space and where to find the materials and appliances. Mia worked remotely and designed and located all of the appliances and fittings for the job. She cleverly altered the layout of the bathroom making it so much better. She gave us lots of options and communicated everything very clearly. The process was very smooth and she was a real pleasure to work with. The elements that we struggle most with were taken care of and it was such a relief. The final outcome looks incredible and we are over the moon with it.

From setting up the first consultation to the very end Mia was great to work with. She has a calm way of listening and intuiting what you want and then helping you to realise that style. She was very supportive to someone like me: this was the first time I had ever had work done on my home. I am so grateful for finding Mia to help with doing up my whole house. At the time I felt overwhelmed with decisions and lots of ideas for some rooms (and no ideas for other rooms!) and not entirely sure how to put it all together in a stylish way. The moodboards and pinterest suggestions were really useful to visualise what look we were working towards. Visitors always compliment me on my house, I use airbnb for the spare room sometimes and the reviews are excellent as they think the space is so stylish, modern and refreshing. I feel so happy and 'at home' in it. Mia helped design the kitchen and living room areas, making the most of the space, and thinking about all the different zones. I like how Mia was willing to make bold interior design choices, she listened to my desire for it to be modern and fun with tropical vibes, whilst keeping it a beautiful space to relax in.

Mia listened to what I wanted and elevated my ideas to make them so much better. When I have attempted interior design myself I was left with compromises where I had run out of time or inspiration. Living with those compromises, with them looking back at you every day, can get wearing. With the work Mia has done, nothing is a compromise- everything is beautiful. Sleeping in a room that is a work of art makes everything seem better. I liked the fact that I still had the ultimate choice but the choices I was making were ring fenced for me, making sure I was picking pieces/ wallpaper/ paints that would work together perfectly. This approach saved me so much time and no more buyers remorse! Working with Mia was a pleasure, fun and so satisfying to see nice rooms turn into stunning places you want to be.
