KLC School of Design

"Having studied as a full time diploma student in 2006/2007, I can without hesitation say this was the single most best investment I ever made. A former HR Manager I wanted change. I wanted to do something for myself that I felt was a hobby I could turn into a career. I never looked back! Without a doubt the toughest year with intense workload but the thrill, energy and buzz you get from your colleagues on the same journey as yourself, all giving something up to succeed and follow a dream, beyond worth it. Hard work, oh yes! More than you ever imagined, yes! Worth it, 100% The KLC family and they do become family are not only top of their game, they care, they know how the industry works because they've worked it and continue to do so. Incredibly professional and going the extra mile at every juncture I could not recommend the school in any higher regard. I celebrate being qualified in 2 weeks for 9 years and 8 years in business! Would I do the course again, absolutely! How does the industry view KLC, as the best there is! Rebecca Leivars, founder of LEIVARS."

"Wonderfully enjoyable and relaxing course in a beautiful location. Sally is very professional and extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of Interior Design. My specific course covered the history of styles through to colour charts, learning to draw to scale and lighting plans and even incorporated a lovely trip to a local antiques centre. Each week we worked on various styles and created a beautiful file of our work including mood boards, furniture plans and all material aspects. Sally was on hand to discuss all ideas and to guide us through the presentation techniques. I would highly recommend this course if you were a budding interior designer or wanted some ideas for your own home improvements."

What do schools, professional organisations and associations do?

If you are taking on a building or renovation project and you’d like architectural advice, then it’s a really good idea to look into architecture associations such as the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). They can help you find an architect that is a member of their institute and also offer a trove of information on architectural news, resources, exhibitions and events. The same goes for interior design associations and institutes, such as the British Institute of Interior Design, as well as other specialist organisations for landscape architects, electricians and carpenters, for example.

For professionals themselves, these interior design associations and architecture associations are crucial for continuous learning and advancement in their fields. For example, architects can take RIBA CPD (Continuing Professional Development) courses to make sure they are fully aware and trained in new architectural developments and qualifications.

Why would I want to contact a design school or organisation?

Perhaps you are considering moving on from your DIY projects and actually becoming professional, or at least taking some interior design courses, yourself? Search Houzz for design schools and architecture institutions that offer interior design courses, certifications, architecture qualifications and training. You might find that the dream of becoming an architect or interior designer is not as impossible as you first thought.

What should I ask an interior design or architecture association, school or organisation?:

  • What trades do you teach or represent?
  • Do you offer interior design courses?
  • How will these be taught?
  • Do you offer qualifications or certificates?
  • What are the fees for each course or qualification?
  • Do you offer membership to an architecture or interior design association?
  • Is there a yearly membership fee?
  • How can my company become accredited by an official institute?
  • Once I am a member of your association am I offered news, advice and continuous learning opportunities?
