Me again! Can we also have a reader's how to section. Such as a designer showing in pictures how to stage a sideboard with bijouterie depending on style, or how to style a bedroom with accents, or even articles on how to achieve X,Y,Z on a budget (I'm sure Houzzer's will have an idea - maybe this could be a section in itself?) Articles on colour or pattern matching etc would appeal vastly methinks. Even simple things that can easily be found on an internet search such as how to prep bannisters for painting would give a more magazine feel. Also a regional links page for cateogries. These could accompany articles. For eg. an article on prepping with images and step by step along with a list of Houzz recommended companies regionally who could undertake the work or fix a botched job! Topics I would be interested in include: How to add value to your home, how to maximise light, how to achieve a professional finish decorating; interior design ideas; how to change the facade of a property; flowers for the garen, door way, flowers for shaded areas, climbers for shaded areas, scented plants, how to ensure colour in the garden all year round etc. Decorating/furnishing ideas to create optical illusions to create size/light etc. Thanks for asking. I love this site and literlly spend hours getting lost on it with a cup of coffee :-)

My initial thoughts would be to change the layout. It seems very awkward and has no focus at the moment. It might be worth investing in moving the radiator as it is very tying where it currently is. I don't know what your budget is, but it might not be too costly to move it to the wall next to the door leading into the room from the hallway. You could have a smaller double depth radiator fitted so you do not loose any heat. You could then move the 3 seater sofa onto the wall where the TV currently is and, if you are needing to keep the 2 seater, move it down the end wall (with the external doors) but to the other end where your lamp currently is.. You can then move the TV to be positioned on the long wall, at the sofa end of the room, either on a media unit or hung lower - ideally at seated eye level. Your piano can also move onto the long wall. You will also get a clearer definition of space by doing this, the larger end for living space and the narrower part for dining. By changing the wall colour, adding some cushions/throws to the sofas, and adding some artwork and photos to your walls it will feel a lot more homely and welcoming. I can't really see the dining area of the room, but from the bit I can see I think turning the dining table and moving it away from the wall will also improve the flow of the room coming in from the kitchen.. Hopefully not long! But personally I don't like it. When I was first decorating a house 10 years ago velvet was nowhere in sight. Now crushed velvet is available for couches, cushions, curtains, headboards, dining chairs.... I'm hesitant to buy anything crushed velvet because in a few years it will need replacing or look dated.

Leather Sofas - advice needed!

After having spent $2500 AU on Italian semi analine leather couch - ummm, never doing that again! Hubby has a high body temperature - him, hot AU summers and analine leather. Not a good mix... 5yrs later cracking in seat and back cushion leather. 8 years later , now has blanket over back and seat cushions as back cushion actually cracked and ripped, both seat cushions no longer soft to sit on. In short, not our best purchase and we don't even have kids! As our only lounge seating it was in every day use,. When canvasing re covering were advised analine not a good choice for every day use. How else do you use a couch in a lounge room, except every day? ! Sorry to rain on your parade but hope your purchase is more successful than ours.
