How can I improve the entrance to our apartment?
When entering the apartment the dining room and living room, all one large room, are on the right. After the cupboards on the left is the kitchen.
The attached picture shows the very bland view of the entrance area from the dining/living room.
What can be done to make the entrance look more attractive and appealing?
The door can't be changed. It's a fire door which receives a regular inspection by fire department or their representatives to ensure its compliant. In particular the ugly automatic closing mechanism can't be removed, changed or adjusted.
Hope someone can help with ideas.

Comments (40)Hi, I suggest you move the mirrors up , at the level of the window because they are too low , with this you will create a hight of the room , the carpet it is a problem : 1: it keeps the dust in the house and 2: you can never have a clean room with it . I also suggest get some money put a wood floor and the radiator can be cut out , moved on the floor heating , then you can decide if you want or not to create a small place to sit at the window or the corner where your closet is a small table with a chair where you can rest and have also a make-up session . Move the curtains close to the level of the ceiling and try to find a fade coloured curtain that can create an accent in the room (just because you have a patter wall that does not mean everything in the house should have a patter as well) and i suggest a plant because it keeps the air clean even when you sleep . i can try to make you a design suggestion and see more of what i am writing you, but i will need some specific measurements of the room (height- distance from the wall to the window and to the corner and after to the door , i assume that is where the master-bedroom bath is . Comments (4)Beautiful house and the garage is not that bad! Don't paint the bricks though! You would have to maintain them and paint them regularly! No need to sandblast! Just try to jet wash them... I bet they come out lovely! Then I would just paint the garage door and side gate with dark grey/ coal. Put oversized plant pots on each side, or even cheap lavender would look nice! To hide the squareness of the garage roof ( although I don't find it offensive!) grow some climbers on roof line or have a mock roof built! Comments (3)I like the colour combo, you could paint the spindles in C Grey as well if you wanted a bit more drama. How about adding a different coloured carpet? Olive green looks fantastic with C Grey. And perhaps a Hemnes shoe cabinet in the dark colour for storage? Comments (7)Hi. It's a nice room. I'd centre the dining table on the rug. Move the bird art to over the sideboard and add a table lamp. I'd pull the sofa out a little and add an arc lamp. Personally I'd change the cushions and throw to the burnt orange that's in the rug. You could also add a couple of navy, green and white cushions. I'd get a larger piece of art for over the sofa or perhaps add a shelf and have a few pieces of art layered in different sizes in thin dark frames to balance out with the dark furniture..
