Renovated kitchen, what floor should we have?
Comments (13)I agree vinyl flooring would be better. The variation in designs, textures and colours now is vast, some you cannot tell from the real thing, but unlike the real thing is warmer and easier to take care off. I had some fitted recently that was grass effect my customer loved it and the cost was very reasonable. Look out on the web for some unusual vinyl designs, to add a unique /designer feel to your room. High street carpet shops only seem to stock standard (boring) designs that are 'popular' , be adventurous ' it's only flooring' You will be amazed at the choice available on line...See MoreWhere to start for our house renovation - help! ;(
Comments (11)Many thanks for all your comments. Really good food for thoughts. I had a few “loft specialist” quotes and we almost went for it. But the reason we did not is that all those specialist lofts companies were not willing to do the rest of the house (eg electric and plaster/painting in living room/dining room, installation of wooden floor in ground floor, reroofing...) so we would have to employ a separate company for this; which obviously make the project more expensive and not streamlined. I think our project is “small” but maybe it is not :) And does deserve a proper architect /design to start with... I will keep you updated ;)...See MoreShould we remove wall to create open plan kitchen living room?
Comments (16)Hi! I studied architecture in Edinburgh! If this is not your longterm home and ensuring return on investment is important to you then I recommend getting some sketch designs and talking them through with local estate agents who are familiar with the local housing market. You could show them a couple of options and get their opinion on which is likely to get the higher resale value, or which is likely to sell quickest - sometimes you don't get a lot more money but it's a configuration that is more sought after so it sells faster, which can also be a benefit when you come to sell. Most of the work I do is creating more open plan living, this is the general trend and has been for the last 20 years or so. I redesigned my Edinburgh flat to have an open plan kitchen dining lounge and it sold for the highest price achieved in that tenement or that street, though I did get lucky selling at the height of a market bubble at the time. I have a free Design Your Home Vision Checklist that is a good place to start with a home redesign: https://www.i-architect.co.uk/dyhvchecklist.html Good luck with your project! Comments (8)Living in a house for a while helps you work out what to do with it and what works best in which room. We moved into quite a scruffy 50s house a year ago and order of proceedings was- Thorough clean as minging Paint kitchen New boiler Kids rooms and office Living room Next steps are En suite Our Bedroom Family bathroom Porch Hallway and landing Drive and front of house Conservatory I tried to prioritise where we spent most time and some little wins (office wasn’t urgent but it only took a day and makes me happy) Consider if you need to do heating or electrics as that is easier in one hit rather than bits and bobs. Good luck!!...See More- 2 months ago
