cleaning splattered paint off cast iron fireplace

hi! any tips for cleaning this splattered white paint? im trying with a wet cloth but its hard going. think it has been polished because keep getting black residue

on the cloth too

The Pink Stuff paste is very good at getting rid of paint spots - I've used on a fridge and laminate floor - just don't rub too hard.

How about a scouring pad, the ones that are a sponge one side and a green scouring pad on the other? It may be too harsh so start very gently. Or if you have strong nails you could try scraping it with your nail.

What colour to paint this fireplace?

I would paint it white or off white, match the colour of your woodwork (skirting boards, architraves) Ask in your paint store for a recommendation on the type of paint to use, there is special paint for this. If you do go what paint the chimney breast, a soft green would make it stand out and really compliment the wooden wardrobe. Try Colortrend Goya. Best of luck!!

As Jonathan above says it looks more victorian than 1930's. That said original 1930's fireplaces weren't particularly attractive for the most part (lots of chunky brown and pink tile usually). I think if you paint the wooden surround a chalky white it will look lovely. Or black if you want a more dramatic statement. Personally I would loose the brass fender. and just keep the dark slate hearth to update it a little.

It is really ugly. if you really don't intend to use it, I suggest to paint it an off white colour so it blends in as much as possible. When you get a few bob, replace it altogether.

Visit your local fireplace centre to buy polish and seek their advice. I think they will suggest a quick clean with wire wool and then when the paint is removed another going over with polish and wire wool.

Don’t forget to wear protective equipment and vacuum thoroughly afterwards

i tried the pink paste - it got some of the paint off but took some of the polish with it. So I'm going to follow your advice Jonathan and ask at my local fireplace shop! thanks all
