Help what paints with rust/red quarry tile floors?

I don't want the expense of changing flooring. Need schemes to go with red and rust flooring. House is Georgian and rural.

All need the below need decorating desperately as we haven't yet since these moving in day photos.

1) HALLWAY: What colour for walls In rest of house I've been doing all ceilings in Paint and Paper Stone I and architraves Stone I or II. So thats a warm neutral. https://www.paintandpaperlibrary.com/stone-i There is little natural light as front door is northwest. Sunny vestibule at the far end and from first floor. Rust coloured Axminster on stairs, lighting & mirror will go. (excuse dog photo-bombing that photo!). The ceiling is getting skimmed and corniced nicely first.

2) VESTIBULE: What colour for the walls to go with its red/rust quarry floor tiles. I might pick up a bench/coat stand for it so paint colour for that too. (excuse door mats on floor of that photo!)

3) PANTRY: Dreaming of a beautiful pantry/wine store with shelving and walls painted like all the lovely photos online! Beautifully organised of course! lol. Currently it has a marble slab at the end which we'll keep. It has painted render/plaster walls and bare wood of various types & shades. It is cool and dark room facing north east with tiny window. Colour scheme here to work with red quarry tiles again. I can't find any photos to inspire me with red quarry tiles. (Sorry Its a dark photo!)

Gosh serious pantry envy! I think the pantry could be left with pale walls, remove the dodgy cupboard on the left and install more simple shelves there. You could add some fabric skirt under the marble work top to add some colour but I would go with utilitarian Victorian work room and not go overboard here. The little vestibule have you considered wall paper? A rich patterned paper with some lovely shelving, coat racks in a dark shade from the wall paper would look great. I think you need to embrace the darkness of the red quarry floors. Sadly the floor that most lets the house down is the long hallway. I guess a previous owner wanted to ‘lighten’ the space but those tiles are really not very nice. If you have the budget I would see if you can replace or cover them now or I think it will really ruin the high end look you are going for. If you are stuck with them the rugs would help.

Those are wise words Karen! am so glad it worked out for you. Love to see a photo, what colour or shade did you choose? Jools, The bitumen is a right pig, best way we found is to make it cold, so it becomes brittle, then you can scrape /chip it off. We used a window scraper, coarse wire wool and various sandpaper. We left the window open on a cold night, turned heating off in there, and you could try a cooler fan on it. Putting ice bags on it didn't work as well as we hoped. we used a round sander, but it can cause swirls, it's really awkward ! To be honest a few dips and scratches on an old floor are okay in the end, don't be too afraid of it, they are only pieces of wood stuck down on the floor, not bone china, as long as you try not to break them, or set fire to them, otherwise you can't possibly do more damage than I did, and they recovered!

Hi Laurenandjames. I love your kitchen / diner. I am in the process of having an extension and I have Howdens Tewkesbury Stone kitchen and Ice White Quartz worktops ready to be fitted. Is the wallpaper from B&Q? Also what colour paint did you go for on the rest of the walls? I was a bit worried about the stone colour as in some lights it looks brown and not the grey I was after. A picture would really help! A large landscape mirror is a good bet in narrow hallways, as long as the frame is not obstructive. A dado rail will help break up the height (so giving the illusion of more width), and allows her to paint a bolder colour below the dado without making the space too dark (white or off white above the dado). Maybe even a picture rail too. She could use satin eggshell under the dado, it’s tougher and more easily cleaned than emulsion, and also has a sheen to reflect light. A large coir mat near the front door, spanning the full width of the hall, to help keep things clean and also reduce the visual length of the hall (to help it look wider)

I'm so sorry, but I've only just seen your posts and all your hard work with the mock ups!!! I didn't get notified. Thank you so much this is so helpful!!! Seeing the Photoshop mocks ups makes us realise we don't want to go two tone on the edge cabinets and like the lighter grey. Unfortunately the job hood needs to stay as we can't get it out. We would love to have a modern one added, it's just not doable without taking all the units out. We have painted the window wall which looks fab (well we think so!), picture below. We're considering ammonite or cornforth on the outside cabinets (posts included) and downpipe on the island. We're not 100% convinced the downpipe will work? What do you think? Is there any possibility anyone could use their amazing skills to demonstrate these colours please? outside cupboards ammonite and island downpipe outside cupboards and island ammonite and if anyone can really be bothered the same as above but with cornforth instead of ammonite! Thank you for your time!

I’m wondering whether a pale blush terracotta for the hall walls. Nothing too dark. For the pantry, just paint everything white - walls and shelves. The walls in emulsion the shelves in an eggshell or satinwood. Although I do love the green shelving below. Your pantry is gorgeous!

What glorious spaces, adore the architectural details, and the Dog photobombing. We love seeing all of these interior projects - they keep us constantly inspired.

A few pointers for you:

1. Hallway: Enclosed some mood-boards as well as colour schemes for your inspiration (with rust tones), and in addition some examples of hallway’s with similar tones to demonstrate the outcomes. The colours that go with terracotta are: warm light greys, off white’s, pure white’s, greens, agave, creams…

2. Vestibule: Adore the beautiful window in the vestibule – stunning, we would encourage you to keep this spaces as bright as possible – to showcase the window, tiles and all the stunning details which make up this space, opt for an off white in this space.

3. Pantry: Enclosed some images of pantry/kitchen designs. Unable to see up close the marble slab (you could pull out the veining in the marble if it has it and incorporate this colour scheme within the space) A nice soft light green would look stunning in this space, and changing the handles on the cupboards would modernise them dramatically. Consider something like a wall mural (see very last image bold teals and greens to enhance the tiles and wood) on the wall housing the beautiful window shape and keep the rest of the walls bright.

Here are some images of pantry’s with shelving and skirts - I think they are very attractive and you can go with whatever fabric you love! Greens will always go with reds so I have suggested some panelling with paper options for your vestibule.
