How did you mount the tv?

So I'm doing a very similar project at my house, using stacked stone and running the wires through the wall, what I can figure out is the best way to attach the mount. And have it look straight and level.

There is a box recessed into the stone behind the TV with a conduit down to the media cabinet that you see to the left of the fireplace. That is where the cables route to for connectivity. The TV itself mounts with a steel bracket right on the face of the stone but be sure it is securely bolted through to the framing lumber behind.

Ok. So the stone was even enough to just attach the mounting bracket? I was thinking of using bushings and recessing them into the stone so they sat against the backer board and extended just enough to be further out then then furthest protrusion of stone, creating four points that were on the same plane to bolt the bracket through to the framing behind.

Try adding a Jali.co.uk radiator cover and bookcase under the tv - you can go on their website and design them to suit the size of the radiator and make the shelving match - for all your gadgets and DVDs etc - will look neater !!!

Thank you very much for all the advice. We have already thought about mounting the TV up but decided against it as the wall is solid and it would therefore cause a lot of mess. Hello Teenytinyhouse, I have to say that I don't watch tv and have not had one for 10 years! I hate them dominating the living room which is not the focus in my eyes! I do love the idea of a roll down canvas for a projector but don't have one as yet but when I do it will be fixed to the ceiling in front of the fireplace roughly... Have to say I like the way you refer to it (TV) as idiot box.. I do miss certain aspects.. Namely.... David Attenborough on anything, Panorama, Scientific programs et al and Columbo! I may have a dvd or two(enty! : ) )

I agree with The Snug Ltd - Not only do T.V's above a fireplace ruin the focal point of the fireplace for me, it's just too hot. I found this interesting article which when read through explains why:- Digital Trends . I'm sure that the room can't be so small that it won't fit a small t.v on a little cabinet at the right height. We have one in our snug which rarely gets turned on, except for when the grandchildren come round. We watch TV in the lounge where it sits adjacent to the much larger fireplace. We did buy a larger T.V at one point, but took it back and changed it for a smaller one as it just dominated the room, and detracted from the Fireplace!
