Aesthetics aside - from a price point of view, what would be the best option: brick, timber-frame, conservatory (with brick plinth?) or something else. I realise glass would be an important and potentially expensive option if it was 'conservatory' style. Thanks :-)

I buy Bold 2in1 Crystal Rain & White Lily in the huge commercial bottles. But as a lover of fragrance sometimes I don't want to my clothes to smell at all and mix with a particular scent I'm wearing so I make laundry detergent with grated Castile soap, bicarbonate of soda, soda crystals and borax. Another thing I do is add soda crystals to every wash and 5 litres of water to machine as I'm weary that the modern reductions in water used in the name of efficiency leave us with laundry that could be washed better.

Brick fireplace - what would you do?

The colour of the quarry tiles and the brick will really complement grey sofas. Personally I find the dark red stain of the wood and the mantelpiece a bit unappealing. If those could be clad, or replaced with more earthy, old looking natural wood it would help. I would also skim the ceiling and fit new wall lights and led downlighters.
