What an interesting question. When I first found Houzz it was predominantly US and I remember starting to notice some pics and thinking oh, that doesn't look like the US, it almost looks . . Australian? Ah, yes it is.
The problem with this pic is I saw it recently so I'm not sure if I'm remembering something I read about it. Concentrating on the picture itself I'm thinking warm climate and sandstone....

I'm tempted to say a fully redeemed mortgage but I suspect that may not be in the spirit of the discussion, in which case...a stone terrace with a weathered stone water fountain and bird bath overlooking a large, mature garden and orchard. (For some reason, I'm also imagining that this terrace has wireless broadband and a fully-staffed cappuccino bar just out of my line of sight...).

Penelope, we had a slug problem when we moved to our house. Eventually, we discovered that the mains water pipe coming into the kitchen in one of the base cupboards was not properly cemented. The solution was to mix up some cement and press it into the gap around the pipe. We had a similar problem with slugs coming in under the frame of French doors. Our builder told us it was because the frame had not been seated properly but just rested on the concrete floor. Taking out the frame would have been too much of a hassle so we used flexible sealant on the inside instead. That works quite well except for very tiny slugs but they don't often come in.

College's do part time/ full time courses, I did HNC in interior architecture and then I swapped to architectural technology as I preferred the technical side more, but my classmates continued to HND and last month went on to 3rd year at uni studying interior design and love it. I agree that distance learning won't be very good, at college/uni you receive guidance from people who have studied architecture/ fine art/ graphic design/ 3D computer design/ live clients from the industry/ , not forgetting what you learn from classmates and feedback on your designs. It's a tough course that was a real eye opener for me as I really did think I was going to be matching curtains or something but it's defo much more than that and has made me in awe of interior designers and the the work that they put in.

Countryside cottage or a townhouse in the city?

We'd lived on the outskirts of a City most of our working lives but upped sticks and moved to the Countryside. We now live in an AONB, and its fabulous but...despite the pollution, crime and noise there are times, particularly in the depths of winter, when it's dark from 4pm until 8am, when we do miss the urban life. This lasts about 30 seconds then we realise how blessed we are. The Countryside is best.
