Want to breath life into my living room!!

Hi- we just bought this house, my living room is narrow and even though we have enough windows, we don't get enough natural light in the room. We bought the cream chaise recently but it's going back because it's fabric is like a magnet for dirt. I love bright colors and would like my living room to look big and colorful. Please can you suggest what color couch I should get and what sort of accent chairs can be bought. Also any advise on side tables and placement of the furniture will be useful. Thanks

Comments (10)Wow! Thanks to all of you for your comments. I think the room in Susanna's picture is beautiful but I think I want a slightly less romantic feel if you can see what I mean? I think I'm trying to get a modern, clean lines look that will major on natural palette BUT that is softened by some texture and I think a pop of colour rather than lots of colour. The Dining Chairs are black leather with brushed steel legs - no wood. I like the greeny blue colour backsplash in mrsmcee74's picture but might want something a little more punchy if I went with that palette. Love the John Lewis Dandelions - had them in the bedroom for a couple of years but that room is next in my list! This is really making me think about what I want for the kitchen / family room. Comments (9)Hi. It's quite difficult to work out the whole room from the pics and exactly what your style is. If the room can take it I'd go for a mid tone grey on the walls so there isn't as much contrast with the sofas but if not a pale but warm grey. Swap the rug for something plain but with texture so a natural coloured sisal for instance so it doesn't make the room feel smaller with such a contrast between rug and floor. I'd use orange as the accent colour so maybe grey patterned curtains with orange cushions and additional artwork. It may also be worth considering blinds rather than curtains to give the sofa some space. I would also pick another colour like green or teal etc to liven it up for just a couple of accessories. Use a mixture of textured and patterned cushions. put something in the middle of the dining table be it a plant or flowers or vase etc. also consider the lighting as table and floor lamps will add a cosy feel. Can you move the dining table so it's central under the light and add a feature pendant (maybe with some orange!)? The existing art looks as if it is hung a little high so would rehang a few inches lower and align over the sofa. Is it a table in front of the tv? Can that be moved in front of the sofa and accessorised? A plant and a couple of piles of books are cheap accessories! Comments (5)Hi Christal99 I'd suggest sticking with the mix of Elephant's Breath and Skimming Stone rather than a blue-grey wall as I think a blue could be too cold. If you wanted the feature wall to be a touch more grey you could use Purbeck Stone for the feature wall with Skimming Stone for the rest of the walls. 8 years agoGroveraxle- You are absolutely right about adding more to the color palette, I was thinking more gold but could can definitely add teal as well...these individual pieces, I think, will weave the colors together..I was also thinking of getting curtains with gold in them
