Need your help!! Updating living room

I have recently bought a house with my boyfriend. We are a young couple and want to put our stamp on the house however I need some inspiration.
I have attached photos of both lounges from 2 angles.
The "sitting room" pictures 1&2 is 4.1m x 3.9m. The "family room" pictures 3&4 is 3.9m x 3.6m.
The "family room" has French doors onto lovely decking overlooking the garden.
I am want it to have a modern feel with splashes of colour.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Comments (2)You have used grey as a neutral, and it is a backdrop for your co-ordinating black and white photos. It is perfectly fine to stick to this neutral palette without adding any colour, but if you do want to add colour, then the brighter the better. A mustard yellow, an acid green, a raspberry pink or a plum would look good, as would a strong teal. If you want to use primary colours then use them sparingly to avoid it looking like a child's playroom! Perhaps have the print and then pick up one if the colours in a few accessories, but don't go overboard with it. Comments (9)A Roman blind is a good idea or curtains that hang outside of the window recess when open to allow maximum light to pour in. Whichever you choose, make sure they are hung high near the ceiling to make the ceiling feel higher up. What do you use the conservatory for? Is the door in the second photo the main entrance into the room? Would the table fit comfortably nearer the window end of the room instead? Then the sofa could go to the other end of the space - not sure if it fits. It's hard to see how the layout works from the photos and without the measurements or a floor plan. Alternatively, would the sofa fit it you turned it so that it faces the centre of the room rather than the window? I'd hang the seaweed mirror above the sideboard or behind the sofa (depending on final layout) and change the floor lamp to one which reaches over into the living space. Also, you need a much larger rug for the living space. The mirror and art are hung too high at the moment. After the layout is decided then you can think about maybe using wallpaper on one wall. Comments (2)I think you could make this room lovely Kate. Firstly, the bed you've sourced. Are you planning to sleep on it as a single or pull it out every night for a double? It's just that it seems you might have to move it 45 degrees every night from what I can see of the design. Other than that it seems like a good option for the space. You already have some ingenious ideas for creating hanging space but I would suggest some shelving (not sure if floating shelves would be strong enough?) with hanging rails underneath to give you a bit more space between the top of your 3 chest of drawers ( commodes) and the rail for longer items. There are some pics below for inspiration. I know we don't all only have black and cream clothes!! but you can see how adding a few picture frames, pretty boxes/baskets/ handbags, etc can make it look more like a glamorous dressing room. I'm assuming concealed wardrobe storage is out of your budget at the moment so making the open storage look as good as possible would be the trick here. Could the rabbit hutch be put on legs or onto an appropriately sized coffee table (ebay /gumtree find!?!) it would look more like part of the room, perhaps with a couple of pics leaning against the wall, food concealed in a pretty box/basket etc.) Does your other menagerie (all the cuddly toys) have to stay? If your looking for the style in your inspiration pics (which are lovely BTW) they might need boxing up and going tthrough the square hole into the loft/attic space!!
