Aged look.

I would first line to say that this looks great. I have an enormous amount of reclaimed water struck brick and I was going to veneer one of my basement walls with them. Looking to achieve a look not unlike the project you have on here. Did the brick mason add color/dye to some cement batches? It appears that sections of wall have black or very dark joints. Curious if he used 3 blends. It appears that way to me.

Thank you for your comments! This wall is an existing interior masonry bearing wall, constructed with the original building in the 1880s of Chicago common brick. It was covered by furring and gyp board for many years until we exposed it for the new owners. The general contractor washed and tuck-pointed the brick where necessary, but for the most part it was left in the condition we found when we uncovered it. It is a work of art in itself.

So lovely I am about to update my lovely dads period semi bit dated but was home sadly dad passed away nov. How to age copper sheet?

I don't think that is aged / weathered copper as that would be green. It looks like it had some sort of burnishing done by a polishing machine, wire wool or similar + mottled effect created by a mild acid droplet spray or water spray. You could probably bond the copper to a plywood or mdf sheet with appropriate construction adhesive and mitre and bend the sides round to lip the short edges. Suggest you do some more research with some of the copper cladding manufacturers like Tecu. I think this would be very expensive though. A cheaper alternative could be to use a decorative metal effect laminate from Formica, Fundermax or Egger, good luck!

DIY brick slips? Anyone?

I recycled all of my old bricks to use as brick slips on the outside of my house underneath some rendering I had done. There were some areas of breeze block showing and this option worked. My builder used an angle grinder to slice slivers of each brick, it requires great skill and makes such a huge amount of brick dust. I did it because I wanted the bricks to match but it was a real faff.....

It's interesting the mention of Insta. We were talking about this the other day - what looks good on a tiny square does not necessarily translate to real life. Things need to have impact on a small square to draw the eye, but in real life you need to live in a space and feel comfortable. I think we have all been sucked in at times! Anyway, Forza's previous mention about Skimming Stone is a good one. Greys tend to be blue based, green based or violet based. Blue based can look urban and tend towards cool, green based or violet based may be the way to go. Little Greene Slaked Lime is good, Skimming Stone woodwork, Elephants Breath walls Farrow and Ball etc.
