Help with my lounge

Got great FB from Houzzers on my kitchen project so I thought I'd give it another go. Looking for Ideas on my Living room please, it's a toughie because I have a large Inglenook fireplace even though the house is less than 10 years old also I have a VERY expensive suite that is Gold , it's bespoke so I really can't afford to change it so I need to work around it really with modern colours, I also have hand made curtains that again it would be a shame (I think) to remove so I'm looking for advice on furniture colours accessories etc and any tips you guys may have, thanks in advance XX

Comments (46)Missmjbs I totally understand your angst, and here's what I would say. Your room looks great as it is, its definitely not offensive and I would happily have a cuppa and a chat in there. Saying that I agree that it needs more work to make it the place that you would totally love. My favourite type of interiors are those that look like they've evolved over a period of time and not the ones where the owner goes and buys everything to match and beautifully coordinate and call it done!! Don't get me wrong I admire these interiors a lot and tend to decorate my own spare bedrooms in this manner because its a lot quicker and easier. I think you should deal with one thing at a time instead of focusing on the overall picture and take your time deciding every single piece that comes in that room, don't rush it. Enjoy choosing and educating your eye by doing a lot of research. I live by a mantra as far as my interiors go, if I absolutely love it then it will work. And I think this is important because our living spaces should reflect us most of all and relate to us and our lifestyles. So tackle that wall because it seems to me its the thing that bothers you most. Get your colour or wallpaper up and live with it for a while, you will know if its right or wrong then if you feel it doesn't work then you can look for a tv unit as an alternative. I would be inclined to buy (ikea malm are a favourite of many style lovers) or indeed have a handy hubby build you a set of simple consoles and position either side. Use some art work above to fill the wall around the tv and make it less obvious stuck there on its own and a couple of lamps and I think that wall could become your friend. As for my upholstered ottoman thank you :) , it was a rescued orange pine coffee table from a local skip, upholstered it myself in a gorgeous quality zebra fabric to pull in the dark colour from my painted Chinese TV cabinet turned booze bar (wish I could replace it). Comments (28)In my opinion the round chair takes a lot of space, but if you want to keep it you have to declutter the area even more. As said above, the photos on the feature wall are not necessary. If you remove them entirely I think it would look better. I also think that you don't need the side table there. You could either have the chair or the side table, but not both in that corner. The big coffee table takes a lot of space and closes the room. I would suggest removing both the big coffee table and the matching side table and having the little yellow/green round table as your coffee table. It goes lovely with the cushions and the sofa. You can put a slim modern floor standing lamp between the chair and the sofa if light is needed in this corner. You do have some great furniture pieces and features in these room. Comments (4)Like the above comments, I find that it would be better to make a feature wall of another wall rather than the one covered with units as it makes either the kitchen area seem out of place or the rest of the room as bland. I think painting the wall with the door and lamp shade on table would make a better feature wall where you could go onto add murals/stickers to add a bit off drama if you like. with regards to colour, it depends on your style, whether you want to opt for bold bright colours, neutrals or more muted pastel colours....See More

9 years agoHi the sofas look lovely, the curtains beautifully made and a wonderful inglenook fireplace, all the three main elements in the room are quite classic. I would agree with Sam look at Sanderson or Zoffany for a wallpaper which would complement the styling perfectly. You could have the paper to all walls as it seems light and quite spacious. This gives amazing impact but with a subtle paper it doesn't enclose the room or one wall and complimenting paint. I would suggest duck egg green look lovely with the gold colour. Zoffany do some wonderful fabrics combining gold and duck egg for cushions to add some accent colour.

9 years agoyes dont paint the brick its perfect as it is. A rug would be lovely and it is here you could choose a more modern style rug. Try to add in other secondary accent colour so it gives another dimension to the room. Again with the chandelier you can have a more modern one rather than the classic ones to add another modern touch but still in keeping with your furniture. Ive added some images to give an idea on the styling.

9 years agoYour main colour is gold/ honey to keep with the tones of your fireplace, sofas etc. it does need some accents so why not let your textiles do this? This could. E a lovely rug, throws or cushions
