Hi Coco, yes sure I understand now! Do you have lighting in the cooker hood? If so this will help a great deal. If not and it's too late to add then now, just make sure you have ceiling lights that give good general light, by that I mean not a directional spot as you will always be cooking in your own shadow. I think this may have been something that annoyed so much before? Recessed or spotlights above the cooking area are good, but if your cooker hood has built in lights you should be fine. Here's a few glass lights which are easy to clean (important in a kitchen) and they let plenty of light shine out in all directions. This is what I mean by a general light. Finally you mentioned it's a north facing room. My top tip here is use LED light bulbs as they are much cheaper to run, last years, meaning you won't have to get a high step ladder to change light bulbs. Do you know the number one reason for dark rooms is people just don't replace light bulbs when they blow! Me included! I've now swapped to LED and my kitchen is bright all the time now. Houzz competition I know the deadline has passed but I would like for you to see this. (The photos are not uploading properly) As embarrassing as it has been for myself and my mum; over the course of my life, I have lived in such a beautiful neighbourhood in the Blackfriars area for over 22 years and the only renovation or decoration that was done was in our kitchen by the council which was lovely. We also got a really nice gentleman to fix our blinds in the kitchen for us however only one side was done because he mentioned that the measurement was not accurate for the other window area so for months one side has been an open view which at times I don't mind, but everyone loves privacy from time to time. When it comes to the rest of the house - 1. The corridor - the walls are damaged by paint and mould so the walls feel quite rough with cracks which at times Ive hurt myself with small scratches... the corridor is sky blue but I also imagined my corridor in a yellow/magnolia colour with white borders and my mum even bought the paint but till now it was not done. 2. The doors in the corridor that lead to each room are off white and the doors don't shut properly anymore. 3. The toilet is separate to the bathroom it's really old and green colour is very boring, the toilet itself is faulty, the wall between the toilet and bathroom by the window is quite thin so it has ripped a little bit. The pipes are cracked and the mould is showing and I was thinking to get the council to wrap it up in some kind of polystyrene wrap. 4. The bathroom has ABESTOS around the window area as the ventilation is so bad and because the window is high up it is quite hard to reach to always open and close it. The bathroom was repainted white at one point but the colour didn't stay for long. Now it's mouldy and black. The pipes are bad and mouldy and the sink area is cracked around. I had an idea of painting it with the theme white and gold accessories or blue white and gold (which my mum purchased blue paint) but we never got around to doing anything. The bath itself sounds like it's about to fall through and many times there have been leaks downstairs into my neighbours flat. The council just used a cardboard/wooden barriers to cover the bath. 5. The front room had wallpaper before and was painted over. Now, on one side of the room a little bit of the wall paper is coming off very randomly as if it's shrinking (I don't remember taking off anything). The carpet was taken off completely but nothing was done to it. This area has become store space too (due to clutter and books). We have some nice brown/gold curtains which I visualised my living room to have a boutique type elegant brown/gold/cream theme. 6. Bedroom no. 1 has not been dealt with for years and so it has become a clutter room for clothes as well as the corridor. The room colour is sky blue but would love for this room to be an elegant green theme something classy for a mother. 7. Bedroom no. 2 is a baby pink room with the intention of painting the room white with splashes of colour. I started taking some things out and taking out my bed area but it's not complete as you can see by the photos. Overall this interior design is definitely needed because of how long it has taken for the decor process to be done. This is the conundrum that is needed to be solved.

Thanks guys - we did a lot of experimenting and testing on some old floorboards before deciding on this stuff. The Osmo oil gives a deep and rich finish on old pitch pine that looks very different to varnish - deeper and with more of the grain being brought out. It's more like a beeswax finish from olden times, without the backbreaking labour and maintenance. Interestingly on the new boards (in the top bedroom), it makes far less difference: the new pine just looks yellow and shiny, much as it would if varnished. But the oil should be tougher and lower maintenance. We decided to restore these floors rather than replace as they were actually in remarkably good condition: this house has never had fitted carpets fitted, nor central heating fitted until 2014, and when it was installed it was installed with regard to keeping the floors intact (many systems installed in past decades saw the boards sawn up and hacked about). I wanted look that is obviously original, and can't be mistaken for engineered wood. I did think about a limewashed finish, but bottled it at the last minute and went totally traditional, as I thought less risk of a finish done to a trend that would be hard to reverse.

The privacy is achieved by providing a reflective appearance on one side of the glass, whilst allowing vision from the other side. The film works on the light balance, with the side of the film that is brightest exhibiting the reflective properties. During daylight hours this is always the side of the film facing outwards, making it ideal for daytime privacy. The film is an ideal alternative to blinds or curtains which when drawn block the view both ways, whilst also making rooms dark. Privacy window film is designed to allow good light transmission, ensuring that a good level of natural light is allowed to enter the room whilst also maintaining a view. Unlike blinds and curtains, window film is also easy to clean – it can simply be wiped down with household cleaning products." If you want switchable glass or retrofit film you mean electrochromic glass / film which changes to a milky opaque colour [or hi def tv] when an electric current is passed through it. Mega expensive but this also means you can't see through it so it would possibly not achieve your requirements? If you want a view out and wish to block a view in there has to be a level of compromise so this could be by using the film I've described which does give you a view out. You can increase clearer vision out by using a pattern which is part clear glass and part film. Suggest you get some samples. UV filters don't necessarily stop heat entering a room but slow down UV which fades carpets, fabrics etc. A bit like sun cream with a 30 SPF etc.
