Help me arrange this room!!

This is our master bedroom - we have lots of windows which is great but I just don't know where to put anything. I don't love the look of dressers so all our folded stuff is in the armoire you see we are trying to figure out where to put a tv and how to really make this a master bedroom retreat - I am dying to paint it a dark color like navy or even black with the brass and wood accents and a beautiful Persian rug. Please try to ignore the mess I was pushing furniture around and got so frustrated that I just took the pictures so I could post my dilemma here asap - it's been 2 years and we haven't done anything in here design wise - we are also on a very tight budget

I love the idea of a higher headboard and putting the bed in the bay, this would let you mount the TV above the fireplace and let you play around with the area where the wall lights are ( where the headboard is now). Recover your chair as a dramatic accent for the room and go with the grey paint idea. Beautiful room and I love the armoire.

Do you have to have the tv in your room? It looks pretty busy? Unless going to your bedroom to watch TV is high on your list of wishes? Looks like a great room though with potential. Start with a fresh slate....clear the clutter, make the bed.
Grey is pretty popular nowadays and if you paint up to the ceiling the same colour it can look really contemporary. Your fireplace looks a bit sorry for itself, if you don't love it get rid of it I say....you have to look at it every morning. Not sure about window dressings as you have so many so that could eat into your small budget but if you are staying in the house long term I would certainly invest in that area.

How about something like this for your windows? You could maybe get the blinds first with voile panels until your budget can stretch for curtains? White blinds would keep lots of light coming in. Hope this helps?

Hi. How about this attempt for layout assuming the fire is boarded up? The sofa would be about 8ft from the tv. (There is leg room between the sofas and I drew the coffee table too far away but ignore that!), Tv can go on the wall or on a cabinet or on the wall with a console underneath and art and decorative pieces around it. Personally I wouldn't put the desk by the bay as you'd be blocking light with a screen. Would it work where the table currently is with a desk lamp?If you need storage, I'd put bits away in a cabinet or get a desk with drawers. Cafe shutters would be good or if on a budget wooden blinds can look good or voile blinds. In terms of style, what do you like? Maybe scandi or soft industriał with white boards or a mix of the two or??

Hi common_reaction7, I think the best is to have your window as a focal point with a symmetric layout like this: With nice curtains that would cover that whole wall it could look really nice. For this layout to look its best though it is better to have two identical sofas. You could also add an armchair in the corner as shown above. We've got some nice ones on Hutsly ()http://www.hutsly.com/search?type=product&q=armchair) This way you will have all the seating you need and you can move the armchair to face the window when you have guests. I would then put the TV on the left wall as you walk in. On the wall behind the left sofa you can have a console or a nice display wall with lots of wall art (like these). A big area rug under the sofas and a couple of coffee tables, maybe small round ones that you can move easily and won't look as heavy in a small room. That's what I would go for! This way it also won't block the flow of your room. What do you think?

As far as furniture placement- removing the wall between living and dining room lakes no difference to the layout. As this is a long thin room your only option is to have dining at one end and living at the other. I would anchor your furniture to rugs leaving a clear walkway between. As far as removing the kitchen wall I think you should leave that in place so that you have a clear escape route from the bedrooms in the event of a fire.

Oh, I love dark walls. Go for it! Paint up to the picture rail and leave the rest of the wall white because then the multitude of lovely windows and all those doors won't look odd if you leave them and their frames white. Here's picture of what I mean:

I'm with Louisep on doubting the TV thing, but it isn't my bedroom! I do like your existing curtains (light, don't detract from the room, and fitted inside the frame so you can see the beautiful detail in the frames). To let us help you with furniture placement, let us know what's in the corner we can't see (and what the box with the cord on the bench at the foot of the bed is - does it need to be there?). I would put whatever it is somewhere else and I was trying to think if there was another place for your bed because it looks like one person is losing out on a proper bedside table and it looks a bit squishy in there. And where do all the doors lead to? I can't tell if there is another one near the armoire....it might help to rehang the one to the left of the fireplace near the armoire so that you open it into the room not against the wall, and it will mirror the one on the other side of the fireplace. I would move the floor lamp to near the armchair - behind it so you can use it to read if you are sitting in the chairs. I hope this helps.

A gorgeous room but I can see your difficulties. I noticed there are three doors, does one go to an ensuite or wardrobe? Do you use all three?

BED - your main problem is where to put the bed. I would invest in a headboard that comes up to the height of the middle of the window (up to the top of the sash frame). This would give you two options of where to put the bed.
First - in front of the side window with room for bedside tables each side.
Second - in front of the bay window (leave the cover over the radiator and push the headboard up to it)

WINDOWS - I'd use roman blinds so that you can see the beautiful window surrounds.

ARMOIRE - If you don't use one of the doors either side of the fireplace then I'd block it up with your armoire . If you can't do that then I'd put your bed in the bay window as above and put your armoire in the corner where your bed is currently.

TV - Above fire surround or remove fire surround and replace with a sideboard and place on top of that.

I think once you've got the flow of the room sorted then you can do any colour scheme you wish as it is light enough and big enough. I'd be tempeted to do a charcoal as opposed to an actual black like the pic from boundsgreener (bottom left)

This is a great room, with wonderful big windows, it must be so light and airy! I agree though, it does make it difficult to work out where to put the furniture. Your bed is already in the best position, but I would suggest moving the mirror to above the fireplace and getting a simple but bold headboard for your bed to give it more presence. You have a lovely wardrobe, which I also think is the right spot, although I would make sure it is central between the two doors.The freestanding lamp would look best placed next to the wardrobe. If you can do without the shelf space, I would get rid of the radiator cover, as you have a lovely old industrial style radiator which would look great painted. You should then have space to put the armchair in the corner that side. Your lovely big wicker basket can go the other side of the wardrobe. I would also then suggest getting rid of any of the other furniture that you don't need, as it will help the room look less cluttered. If you paint the walls a beautiful grey up to the picture rail it will give a really smart look. Final idea would be to make your fireplace more of a feature, either with a collection of candles or logs as in the image below, and also picture frames and candles/books on the mantelpiece. Rather a long reply, but hope at least some of it helps!

The mirror should not be above the bed. What if it fell off?

The bed is in the right place and the TV if you must have one in the bedroom should go where you can see it from the bed.

The room is gorgeous.

Bed under a window (very American and makes a room look unfinished). Move it slightly away from the bay back into the room (up to the edge of the left window) and use a lower bedside cabinet that sits under the windowsill so it doesn't look like its blocking the access to it. Lose the window nets - loathe seeing untidy nets, and will not aid a restful design. If privacy is a must use half voiles, and Roman blinds or made to measure sill-length curtains. The chair should be moved to aid access to the cupboard behind, and ideally have a smaller one sat next to the armoire. If watching TV in bed is your thing, a neat flat screen sat on the table at the end of the bed, shielded by a) a large lamp, or b) a sculpture/vase to slightly obscure it on entering the room is fine, and you could lose the floor lamp so would look less cluttered. Gorgeous room though - look forward to seeing it finished!

In brief:-

I agree about doing away with the fire surround. It' not a working fireplace and takes up needless room.

Secondly:- The T.V / Drawers problem. Remove the black cupboard from the foot of the bed. Either buy a second matching or single armoire to use as a t.v cupboard / drawer storage. Or maybe something like this which i made for our house. We split the mirror from the chest of drawers below it ( simple, they're attached with screws ). I then made the mirrored part in to a cupboard that could be moved further up the wall to house the T.V and used the Chest of Drawers below for Storage. I actually mounted a blanket box on the Chest of drawers to make another larger unit. ( another story )
You get more room between the end of the bed and the wall opposite this way, with the wires not on show.

Take away the console table laid over the radiator, it'a a nice radiator and it serves a purpose, but the table is doing it no favours at all. If you don't want the rad on show then give it a proper radiator cover. It's a bay window, so you have room to create a bay window seat if you wish, which adds a little character.
Also gives you a little more storage

Lastly the standard lamp belongs in a corner, currently where placed, it's almost in the middle of the room and looks a little daft, but maybe that was just a result of the 'pushing round the furniture' incident.

I love the idea of the Navy, but I'd probably go for less is more in a bedroom, so maybe have the one very plush wall behind the bed, although, if you combine the navy with all white furniture to brighten it, I agree it will look lovely.
