Need help small living room

My living room is looking rather boring. I have a mink sofa and magnolia walls. My feature wall is light grey and cream wallpaper. I don't want to get rid of wallpaper or couch but need inspiration for paint on other walls curtains lighting cushions etc to make it warm and cosy thanks. Anne

Could we possibly have pictures so we can see the room, the couch and the wallpaper colours?

Soz my camera broken but couch is mink and feature wall is cream background and very light grey fern leafs

Thank you for your response. We had plans pretty finalised until we found out that we can keep just that long wall into the large space as it is a load-bearing. There is an opportunity to put a door in though. I am attaching what it looked like with all the walls that we can now remove. We have also been tinkering with ideas which I am adding as well. I added some comments on the plans as well. What we want to have is a dining area with a large table that seats 8-10 people. We want enough space for two people to work and cook in the kitchen. Thus, we were thinking of an island or an L-shape workspace coming out. We'd like to have a utility room to have space for all the cleaning utensils. Washer and Dryer will be upstairs in a separate laundry room. The living room is nothing formal but an area to relax and watch TV. We'd like to have an L-shaped cough in there for a family of four (2 kids under the age of 10).

Hi Melanie, Here are a few suggestions we can offer to you. For a start, the light grey wall would look great with the blue sofa, if the rest of the walls was white so that it brightened up the room and didn't make it look enclosed. If your not too keen on the yellow on this then that doesn't matter as you can just add creams or beige's which will look great to. Micro Throw - Mocha I think you should paint the fireplace white as it will bring out more contrast between the colours and look better with the grey wall. Also instead of adding shelves next to the fireplace, add a couple on the wall at the side like above. Then you can add some photo frames to make it more warming and personal. For the lights I would probably suggest something like these, just as they will brighten the room up more and they are not too over powering. Ohhh boy! It looks for me as hallway. I would put sectional in the corner and rug. Rug is all the way ,long enough to cover eyesore tile work. Will continue later with ideas.

What about adding a big footstool in front of the sofa then you could also use this as an additional seat. As I see it the problem with corner sofas is if they are square as yours shows in your plan then you can’t sit in the corner position and put your legs to the floor. If you have a corner sofa with a more round into the corner this provides the seats.

HI if the wall paper is cream and grey I would colour match the grey for paint for the other walls. This will give a more contemporary look and feel as well allow the sofa to stand out from the walls rather than merge into them. what flooring do you have down at the moment? do you intend to keep it? Do you have overhead lighting?

Hi thanks for replying. I do have overhead lighting but it is very bright as do not have a dimmer switch. I tend to use a floor lamp which is just like a bog standard floor lamp and I do not like the lighting in that either so I am going to change that. I will try the grey but will that not be a bit dull? What do you think about curtains and soft furnishings. Sorry I do not have much of an eye for interior design!

I always suggest to start with is a trip to the paint shop get some paint cards they are free. take them home you can see the colours in your room. Grey is very popular at the moment and a nice light grey can be very elegant. With out images it is quite difficult. For example though dulux trade 50BG72/006 is a soft grey. get a sample, paint 2 coats it onto a piece of paper and hold it against the walls. see if you like it. You then need to introduce an accent colour to lift the room and make it interesting. what colour flooring do you have? as this is important too.

yeah thats where I have the problem what other colour to use. I will try the grey colour you suggest. My floor is laminate and is beech in colour (medium brown).

look at aquas ,duck eggs they will look nice with everything else you have, and if adventurous add a bit of fuschia it is a good mix.
