New bedroom

I'm moving into my boyfriends place and so we're decorating over summer. Since buying the flat he's yet to do anything with it.
This is the bedroom.
We need a lot of storage space for all of my clothes whilst wanting to open it out a bit.
The space is difficult to work with. For example the area above the bed.
Some creative beautiful ideas would be fantastic!

The issue here is the tension between desired space and "character". I can see lots of unused space in this room which could be remedied by creating a mezzanine area (either a raised bed or office and living below and above it) Either built to the side of the wall or centrally. However, I would start by truly analysing what you want out of this room.Sleeping, study, meditation and of course, storage? How much clothing, how much time spent in room etc

I'm having the same problem and am thinking of an off white for the main walls and a duck egg blue for the wall behind the bed. I personally would only paint one wall, but I'm thinking perhaps wallpaper rather than paint. Previously I used B&Q Rice Cake which was like a deep beige and an aubergine on the fireplace wall, they complimented each other well, but want a change now. Good luck deciding, experiment, you can always change it!

Good job on painting the inherited furniture. It looks good. I would go "vintage" with light fixture styles, but use LED lights and all new wiring. I don't think I would paint a "feature" wall in a room with antique furniture. Research the patterns of bedding used when the furniture was new. Was there a particular color used during that era? Which one do you like? What modern fabric might you find in the desired color? What window treatments would you like and in which color? I suggest that you mix your wall paint based on your desired color AFTER you have acquired the bedding and window coverings. It is much easier to match paint colors to fabrics than the other way around. You could make the paint a pastel shade of your desired color or "gray" it down.

We want sleeping and relaxing with clothing storage.
It won't be used for anything else.
I agree about the unused space etc.
As I say we haven't touched it yet and want it to look very different. We're just a little stuck as which direction to take it!

I would

1. Put built in wardrobe on one of the walls (probably the one on right handside) — as tall as possible
2. put drawers under the bedframe for addinational storage
3. the surface behind the bed: depending on your needs small drawer unit/bookcase/decorative boxes to store small items/plants
4. Possibly a picture or mirror or other decorative feauture on the wall opposite from bed (remember it is the thing you will probably end up staring when having a lie in on a Sunday
5. I would consider painting the ceiling white to give it an airy Scandinavian vibe

I love the quirky lay out with the stairs :)

Challenging & Interesting room!

I'd keep the wardrobe storage on the wall it is and look at costs to get something custom built to the space and built across the entire wall.

I like the idea of boxes or drawers under the windows, just remember to keep them symmetrical or otherwise get the same people you ask to do the wardrobe to come up with some ideas here also.

Colourwise I'd stick to white as there is so many different things going on that colour would confuse it. The beam above the bed makes me want to hang £5 ikea nets from it to create a canopy over the bed, which you could push out of the way back towards the headboard. It would also soften the look of the room.

New bedding, cushions & throws is a must and can reflect your personality and be your starting point for the whole decor style & where you can bring in colour.

Finally, I think you need a larger chest of drawers with a large Statement mirror above it.
