Help!.....what shall I do with these kitchen beams?

Anyone sanded and painted their kitchen beams? Mine are awful. The beams are modern and quite rough, cobwebs love them right now!. We have an open roof with skylight above them. I am thinking of painting roof beams, roof and walls white. What type of paint to use on beams? What is the best coving to use, that looks good? Any ideas welcomed.

Forgot to mention, the owner before us painted these in terracotta..nice. AW Finish sounds nice for natural wood that isn't painted. Thanks for feedback.

I've finally had it done, all, painted and downlights fitted! The difference is amazing, obviously it looks far better but also the additional lighting which I have now included with warm white bulbs makes a huge difference - all surfaces look brighter and larger and the whole house looks much more modern. £1630 very well spent. I had 4 rooms done in total. Pics before and after are not that exciting as it's hard to make a ceiling look interesting, but here they are anyway!

It could work well. I meant to say I'd just consider the size of the room and height of the ceiling. If the room was small for instance with very high ceilings and you painted the walls a really dark colour you could end up with something cupboard like. Dulux, crown etc have paint visualiser apps which could help.

Thanks for comments. Daisy- yes this is an issue we are trying to deal with, ideally we would have 2x tall FF’s but if we convert the to base units, then 4x600 base fridge/freezer units take up more floor space than 2x tall 600 wide FF’s, and will mean that there is not enough floor space for everything else we need in the kitchen! Jonathan - like the plan, however the bottom right hand corner has an opening to a storage area so tv couldn’t go there. The engineering bricks are the least of our worries I think as they are only 100mm deeper than the rest of the wall, so I assume we can just put up some simple 100mm studwork to even out the wall to allow ease of placing kitchen units etc.

I’d put in a low bookcase that runs all the way along the bottom. Then you can fill it with books/ plants / sculptures. And then some artwork for the walls. I’d throw in a hanging planter on one side, maybe a big plant in the corner too

I clicked on this because in the picture, with the lighting, it looked like they were painted magenta and orange and I actually thought they looked stunning! You could play with depth by creating an ombre effect so the nearest one to the entrance is a dark shade and the furthest one is a light shade, with the others graduating between them. It would make the room look bigger I think.
