There's always been something quite glamorous about a townhouse, and once upon a time we've all probably strolled through some of a city's nicer areas and thought "well I wouldn't mind living in that".

So we've picked four rather lovely townhouse exteriors for you to let your urban dreams run wild with - vote for your favourite one and tell us what swayed your decision!

I have a little bit of an obsession with mews houses and when I was a student I would love to stroll around Mayfair/Fitzrovia/Marylebone in the hope of coming across a hidden mews street. One like this would be my dream...

Based upon what I think it would look like from the inside with nice bigs windows, and then how I could decorate to match the theme:

1) Clarendon
2) grosvenor
3) Piccadilly
4) Boston

Hello Tom, One you have missed is the fantastic metal and glass option... Here's a few examples... I love the top two especially and the second would be fantastic as a double door option.. The the third for the really modern look! (don't like the light or the stairs.. : ))

I've rather lost sight of fun... so I had to give this some serious (!) thought. Tentatively, I came up with a croquet lawn, water pistols (or maybe a water cannon or two!) and a home theatre—not a movie theatre but a proper stage for silly exhibitionism involving family and friends. And, if money were no object, I'd also like my own bit of adjoining woodland, for treasure hunts and camp-fires. (I'd also love the laundry chute and the secret door but they'd pander to my sense of luxury rather than fun.)

I like much more about the holiday chalet Whitsand Bay than the others, although I would have to choose different cabinet doors, paint almost everything a colour rather than white, and have more panes in my windows. But I very much like the choices of shelves rather than wall cabinets, the mix of beadboard and tiles on the walls, the hanging light fixtures rather than built-in downlight (which I abhor), the Belfast sink, the cushioned bench seating, the open beamed ceiling, the farmhouse table, the adorable wee range. The floor is so, so and I would probably choose slate or quarry tiles instead, for both visual warmth and practicality.

Overall surely your poll is largely redundant? i think that the style of door should match the style of house or the build intention if a challenge is the plan. we are having this door dilemma at the moment. i voted wooden because that is what we will be having upstairs (i am not adventurous enough to have glass bathroom doors!) but downstairs pocket doors are our plan and am unsure how far to go with design as all, barring one, will be hidden 99% of the time.

It has to be Clarendon with its massive windows because the light inside must be amazing

Boston first because, well, it's in Boston. The mews house second because I wouldn't have to change my furniture! The Clarendon Works third because those gorgeous windows would make it worthwhile changing all my furniture. And Piccadilly last but hardly least because, after all, that would make Fortnum & Mason my local corner store.
