Blank canvas bedroom - need ideas!
Comments (6)Hi Victoria. Other shots of the room would help to see the space and wardrobes. I would spend some time looking through pics of bedrooms on Houzz and set up an Ideabook of styles that you like. The bed is a traditonal design so I would keep it fairly Classic. Some colour and different textures will warm it up. What colours do you like and which way does the room face in terms of light? Perhaps wallpaper to add pattern or a throw and cushions. I'm not suggesting the style of room pictured above but it might be nice to have an upholstered chair in the corner by the window unless you need storage? For the bedside cabinet I would go for something on long legs to keep the feeling of space. If you want a rug then keep it in similar tones to the floor, again for space....See MoreSmall living room / diner is a blank canvas... help!
Comments (5)Hey, Gemma. How's it going? Are you able to post some more pictures of the space, so we can see it from other angles and how it ties to other rooms (especially the kitchen)? Also, forgive me for asking, but where is the current dining table? Your eye is similar to mine in the choices you made and my living/ dining area is similar so I can certainly relate. It's difficult to know where to start because you're lucky enough to have a blank slate. I think all your ideas are good. I know you're changing your sofa which is good as the chaise element blocks the eye's flow to the light/ window. Something with long legs, with 2 seats - possible a loveseat - would also help to minimise the footprint. I agree with the paint colours. I'd probably paint the whole wall, in case you wanted to change things around at some point. It can also be very difficult to pull off, and especially with varying lights. How would you like the split to be between the dining and living areas? In one of your ideabook photos you have the 'zones' approach at 50/50 but I'm not sure if that's something you were going to carry through or whether the dining space would play a less prominent role. All that said, I think all your ideas are spot on and the space promises to look great....See MoreStairway inspiration please- blank canvas
Comments (4)I hadn’t thought of the gallery wall competing with the window so thank you. I need to make sure the frames aren’t too stark. Maybe dark grey frames with colourful photos. Thanks for the suggestion about coloured vases in the space. I love the idea of a huge coloured glass vase in that space. Totally agree that it needs a big pop of colour and it’s very plain right now. Like I said, blank canvas. I think the area looks awesome with a huge window like that and agree it’s an odd place for a window but unfortunately not logistically going to be able to change the window. Love the suggestion though....See MoreIdeas or advice on a blank canvas bungalow
Comments (20)What styles do you like? Don't worry if you don't know, I didn't, and there are so many beautiful rooms on here - it's amazing albeit a little overwhelming. Maybe create a folder and just save images you like (of any style) and then go back over your saved photos and delete the ones you actually don't like (it's surprising how often you get a "why did I like that?" moment). Then have a look at your revised list and see what you have been most drawn to. There will always be a few anomalies but in general, there will be some sort of pattern there. I like the fireplace too and when I saw the colour, my first thoughts were navy walls and lots of texture. If navy is a little dark for your taste what about a different shade of blue? Blue and leather look so beautiful together. This would work with your existing items (including the carpet although are you changing this to vinyl?) and also anything new you would like to add in. If you were thinking of changing the kitchen, you could also carry the blue accents into the kitchen. I've included a few photos (of different styles and blues for inspiration) x...See MoreMatthew Decorator
