Finishing touches to lounge

I need some ideas please on how to finish this room off, particularly the long wall with the TV and the short wall with the floor lamp. I'm happy with long wall with the large sofa and table lamp. I'm considering a black Barcelona chair for the empty corner. Perhaps photo frames on the empty short wall.

If this were on CAD - this is what I'd do to make it look more symmetrical, which in turn, will help it look a little less cramped in the corners I hope !
( please try it - even if you don't like it and move it back again !)

Start with the sofa in front of the curtain - pull it forward a little, so you can stand behind to close the curtains. Make sure it's central to the window when you look at it from the front .

Then, the tv wall that's left in front of that sofa.. Centralise the tv cabinet to the space that's from the front of the sofa to the other window wall . ( leave the lamp etc for the moment )

Then the sofa opposite the TV - centralise it to the TV ( and centralise the mirror above that sofa ) .

Then look at the cabinets and lamp you have left - and move them about so they don't look cramped - there should be enough space to give you several options .

Take some shots and we can see if it's helped - and saved you from needing to buy more pieces !

Hi Mutleyz. glass splash backs are great and easy to clean. you could go for a white sparkle one adds a bit of fun but doesn't tie you into a colour. I would put roman blinds at the windows and door clean and simple in keeping with minimalist styling. Lime and teal with be lovely a good choice and lots of options, harlequin, sanderson, prestigious,villa nova, all good fabric companies you should find something there. John Lewis stock most of their ranges or if you have a local curtain maker ask her I am sure she will be reasonable making made to measure. or simple plain fabrics with a contrast border. with the dining sitting space dilemma which would get used more? are you likely to sit in the kitchen? or would you go to the living room for that? I would lean to putting in a dining table. Although you say you wont use it, it is surprising how much you will. If you have friends or family over for dinner you will need a table. If you don't have one you are restricted, if you want a comfy chair you do have the lounge anyway. and yes Cif if great for stainless steel. I use the plain one in the yellow bottle and it is the best. hope some of that helps, but you are doing great so far.

Hello Lynn, I love your bathroom! I think I would go for a classic/traditional style mirror or something similar to your soap dispenser. Some sparkling will give a luxurious touch to your bathroom. I think the pale grey tile is too cold. For some reason I just don't like it and think it tips the room into something not as funky looking. I'd go for a small muted (very pale greys) tile laid in a herringbone/chevron pattern, or plain white metro tiles with grey grout. I'm not a fan of grey grout and white metro tiles generally, but I think they would look absolutely great in this room!

The sofa in front of the curtain - pulled forward a little (can stand behind to close the curtains) and is central to the window when you look at it from the front.

I can't quite centralise the big sofa opposite & centralised to the the TV - because the bureau next it is too wide (it's only s few inches out). Or I could move the bureau, not sure where to? That I'll need help with, it weighs a tonne! The mirror is pretty much centralised to the sofa now!

If I pull the cabinets forward all the wires and plugs are on show..

I think so far, so good though! I'm amazed at the difference a few inches makes!

This room needs a rug and a coffee table. As for the wall with to on it, I would consider a much bigger shelving/tv unit and then you could display photos, books etc that reflect your personality

OnePlan will never lead you astray. Could you try the small table currently to the left of the sofa over near the love seat with the table lamp from the bureau on top? I'm not sure if the cabinet is a bit wide, but if the table lamp is lower and the lovely floor lamp goes somewhere else, the ambient light it throws out will be more even and look better (at the moment, the table lamp is really high and the floor lamp is casting a much lower light).

I would get a big pot for the plant and try the floor lamp near it in the corner and get a small table lamp - a different base to the others but with a black shade, to tie it all together - so that all the ambient light is at the same level.

Your wedding pics (they are wedding pics, aren't they?!) are a bit lost where they are, which is a tragedy...move all the furniture around first, but as things stand, they would look best mounted above the bureau, the same height as they are now.

P.S. Nice to see doggie out from under his blanket :)

Hi Diana, that would have been the best plan, but I've recently bought it and it's actually a corner unit. Originally the plan was for a fire place in the middle (where the TV is) but it's too expensive. Thanks though! Will consider a rug, felt the room was too narrow?

Hiya BoundsGreener!

The side table you suggested is too wide, it would mean the sofas are too close together.

I have moved the standard lamp, quite like it there and (as you said the light is much more balanced) and its reflecting nicely onto the chandelier!

I've moved the table lamp, but it seems too far away from the empty corner. Perhaps the table needs moving back? But then nowhere for drinks etc. Not sure about the placement of it.

The bureau corner looks dark and empty now. Can you have too many lamps?! I agree with moving the pics to above bureau, perhaps another frame the same size with it? Not my wedding, but family pics.

Dog is confused with all the movement, he's sat away from me now!

Really appreciate all your help! Love you guys!

Lights look pretty! Forget the table swap. You can never have too many lamps....Sort of :) Find a squat lamp with a black shade for the bureau - you want it to end up as the same height as the standard lamp and table lamp, so measure what that is (20 cms? 30 cms?).

Sorry dog is confused. Mine looks at me like I'm nuts when I'm moving stuff around, too.

I'm biased, I'm an artist, but I feel the room is lacking in art as there is too much bare wall space and the one picture you have is too small (in my humble opinion). It kind of makes the room look empty. Art is personal but there are many styles, themes and textures which might compliment and help your design.

I agree an additional lamp and art work is much needed. I could have some pics above the bureau and some art next to the small sofa on the short wall.

I'm thinking another floor lamp would look best in the corner (rather than the current table lamp.) What do people think? Perhaps another tripod lamp?

At the moment the little table with the lamp on gives light and a place for your hot chocolate - just a lamp wouldn't be so useful !!

Yes good point! I'll see if I can get used to the table lamp being there, then consider purchasing another small table lamp for the bureau. I've moved the plant next to the table lamp now, so the room is looking more symmetrical now! Thank you so much for your help!

I think it needs 3 pictures on the long wall- some striking modern prints to complement the modern lights. Plus a few coloured cushions that pop-pink or fuschia perhaps? Plus a pale fluffy rug on the floor-you said it was narrow how about a reindeer hide or similar? Then you can add a few Mongolian cushions to match.

Hi I think you could add cushions in brighter colours to liven up the space. I agree art work is needed and maybe tie back the curtains and fit blinds. Just a thought...moving the furniture about has made a great difference

If it were me I would save up for a fireplace. Move the tv to a corner, also buy a large area rug and coffee table. (shop around, there are some bargins out there) Your mirror is reflecting nothing, put it over your new (saved up for) fireplace.
