Orange walls

We've moved in to a new house . The master bedroom has dark orange(hint of brown) walls.my husband doesnt want us to paint it.But it bothers me a lot as the room is very dark.any ideas in chouse of colour or things to do to bring light into the room ?

Add in lots of cheap Nasty spot lights and blind him with them until he lets you choose new paint and helps you redecorate!!!

Hi there! Congratulations on new house! Of course to paint the room in colour you like is the best option but compromising with your husband decision is an attitude of a good wife.)) You can bright up your room with choice of light colour furniture, bed and window dressings, and accessories. I am sure at the end of the day you will have a bedroom which will suit both of you.

A belated THANK YOU to everyone who commented. This is the final result. We're super happy with it. Room A north facing "through-lounge" in a new build, 3 bed semi detached house Paint Walls: Purbeck Stone, Farrow & Ball Ceiling: Strong White, Farrow & Ball By the way, the room isn't as long and skinny as it looks in the photos. Painting it all one colour actually made it feel much, much larger. We were really impressed with the quality of advice the F&B staff gave us in regards to colour. We loved Purbeck Stone from the minute we saw it, and being brave really paid off.

Hello Onome, Interesting walls... Perhaps consider dark wood dining table with clear polycarbonate chairs.. So the table is the focus which lends itself to a nice open feel.. A nice mirror on the wall would also be a nice feature in the dining area.. Consider a sofa that will compliment the blue.. Duck egg blue sofa with some wooden accessories.. like side tables and possibly a sideboard.. table lighting etc.. so a few ideas.. : ))

It’s usually best to choose your furnishings etc before painting the walls. Much cheaper and easier to change a wall colour than try to find furniture to match a wall colour. Here are some room ideas. I know you’re asking for rugs but without any furniture in situ it is difficult to envisage as decor involves so much more than just wall colour.

Hi Marrianneivy, if the colour is not what is bothering you but more the fact of the room being on the dark side, add a large mirror, a good over head light chandelier style and keep your furniture as light as possible. Hampstead design hub has shown you some fab designs with orange that can help for inspiration. If it the colour your not happy with then
one option maybe look for a wallpaper that you could have as a feature wall that incorporates the colour but is not too prominent. Orange is going to be very strong this on fashion and interior design so you are ahead of the game.

It sounds like a burnt orange, which if you look at the psychology of colour can cause tension and a negative vibe. You may or may not believe such things. I would add some white into the room to lessen the effect. I would stay away from black or other dark colours. Orange is great in a kitchen or dining room as it stimulates the appetite!
