Dark spare bedroom - help!
Comments (17)Add reflective accents, not just mirrors, but warm metallics such as copper and bronze in accessories and textiles to reflect the lighting and add warm glints to the moody blues. I would use a warm light neutral (a cream, mushroom or taupe) to balance out the blue rather than stark white or light grey. This would make the room feel cosy rather than gloomy. But remember that you will need lights on constantly in the room if you go dark. Maybe set up a wiring circuit so that all your lamps go on with one switch? Or use down lighters concealed behind pelmets or a false ceiling to wash light down the walls? And make sure that you have good task lighting in wardrobes and near vanity units, or makeup and dressing will be tricky!...See MoreDark dark bedroom walls what colour carpet
Comments (5)Dear Claire, I'd choose wooden floors any day over carpeted floors as they're much more durable and give an airier feel, however if you end up agreeing with your husband on having the room carpeted I'd recommend a warm grey carpet like my design shows below: When it comes to a wooden floor a whitewashed look might look modern but could provide too harsh a contrast, instead I'd opt for a mid-tone warm grey or pale brown. Hope this helps! Irene...See MoreSpare Bedroom Ideas
Comments (4)Thank you for your reply. I really like the image you have attached, and maybe layering grey is a solution; however, I've found finding tonally similar grey soft furnishings, etc particularly difficult, hence wanting to add more colour to the mix. I've attached an image of the inside ofThe built in cupboard. The larger middle section has a hanging rail. I prefer to use this space for extra's (duvets/pillows/etc). I would like a wardrobe in this room. Because of the requirements, I'm abit stuck on the layout of the room....See MoreSpare bedroom help required!
Comments (2)I'd get a shorter, alternative sofa bed, the kind that opens out lengthways. Like the one I am attempting to give away on freecycle currently :-) And put it under the window. As you're planning to use the room for storage and laundry I'd plan a floor to ceiling range of cupboards where the mattress is, so it can be all stored away. I'm a recent convert to the joys of pax wardrobes. Theyre modular and great for all kinds of storage....See MoreFraser
