Shower room small budget

Have a small downstairs shower room which needs ripping out and starting again but with a small budget. We are desperate for storage so need big cupboards/ draws but also have to house this ugly big boiler ... Love the idea of walk in shower and it needs to be bright as its north facing...

Hi. I assume moving the boiler elsewhere is not an option? My mum moved hers and I think it cost c1k. Assuming not, it may be an idea to invest in a bespoke floor to ceiling cabinet to house the boiler (presume there are regulations as to how this should be done) and vanity if storage is so key. Make sure it includes a large mirror to throw some light around. There are bespoke cabinet suppliers on here or get a local chippie to quote obviously making sure any material is water resistant or tile etc. Save money by using vinyl on the floor. Large tiles make bathrooms look bigger (choose something with a sheen) or reuse what you have already. If you reuse I would replace the black border with something cream/white to match the tiles as it's making the room smaller at the moment. I can't really see the space for the toilet. Can you get a space saving one and have a slightly bigger shower? Do also save money by using a local plumber to install, if you remove the existing tiles yourself this will also help. The plumber is also like to have a trade account at somewhere like city plumbing with good quality fittings at low prices. Walk in showers are nice but if budget permits actually get a really decent shower installed. Obviously ensure you have some good lighting, including the vanity unit and keeping surfaces clear will make it feel bigger.

Hi Doubt mom It's a little tricky without seeing the room in person and without measurements but one possible option would be to rehang the door to open outwards then reposition the basin on the opposite wall. Then you have more space for a larger shower and with more room to get in and out. Whilst I agree in an ideal world, none would be better - if only you could magically neaten all the edges with something without using edging! However, you can get some reasonable looking metal tile edging which doesn't look too bad. It was used on the tiles in one of our bathrooms plus we've just had some used with the tiles in our new kitchen. When you look at the tiles front on in there, all you see is the thinnest brushed silver metal line - so not too bad. I'll see if I can upload a photo.

Thanks for your comments, just wanted to make sure our proposed layout wasn't too impractical before going back to architect to suggest it. Jen - thanks, I'd missed the door hanging as that's how it currently is but architect has suggested changing to other side as you suggest. OnePlan - we were debating between us whether to have hob or sink on the island and thought having hob would be the less messy option, but I see your point about seating behind hob, especially as we have a 1 year old so want to make things as child friendly as possible so will rethink this. We did consider having shower room where utility is but want to retain access from front to garden via garage as we don't have external access. Picasso - thanks will consider whether have it as a wet room instead, we plan to have underfloor heating anyway so hope that might help drying the floors.
