Quick makeover for old original 1930's bathroom

Help- need to do a quick fix it for now. original tiles and ideally would like to keep sink. Any thoughts on how to update sink aside for new taps ( cabinet around sink? type of shower over bath? Yep its grim....

Hi Jo,
My first thoughts are to hide the piping under the basin. A good joiner will be able to build around the basin to 1. Hide the pipes and 2. Create storage. Without seeing the whole of the bathroom I wouldn't want to comment on the rest. But please feel free to email me some more pictures and I'm more than happy to help. Give the bathroom a uplift by painting above the tiles.

I agree-cabinet around the base of the sink, paint above the tiles (baby blue perhaps), bright towel in hook next to the sink and if you can stretch to a new mirror, that could make a big difference. Clean up and regrouting would brighten up the white tiling too.

What are your current feelings about the floor?

totally agree with you. love original features. if the window is original in the bathroom then you've done a great job showing it off as it wasn't noticeable before. Love the bay too. so did they use the original glass or did they just replica the design? my own house is an old house unfortunately it was used as part business before so has lost a lot of features. over the next year we will be putting up an extension to replace one that had been added and will try and start sourcing some original items to put back Into the house. will think it will be a challenge at times but looking forward to it.

Just so you know, these parts are made on a tool called s spindle;e (small scale manufacturing). if you really really want to get the shape "just so" the supplier will be able to have a profile made for you, a new profile blade for a spindle machine will cost between £200 and £300. They may also have a minimum order OR they might ask you to pay a modest amount towards "set up time" (changing the blade over, etc.) I use Ternex in Welwyn for this sort of thing, their existing profiles can be seen here...https://www.flickr.com/photos/exploitspace/albums/72157669236158295

The bathroom measures 12ft x 7ft. I have a budget of around £1,000 for this room as in the very near future we will split the second bedroom to make a smaller bedroom and separate bathroom and put this bathroom back to bedroom 3. The carpets curtains and wallpaper are definitely going. The wall at the side of the loo looks bad but it’s just peeling paper. The walls may need skimming but this can be done along with the lounge. The house is at present is a 2 bed 110 year old semi detached cottage style property so although I’m young (20) I don’t want anything too modern.

My bathroom is almost identical except for being only the length of the bath plus a couple of inches. I also have an outer cupboard in the same place. Rinq is right to utilise the cupboard for the bath. Mine has the electric meter in it so I can't. Your electric line for a socket can be used for a power shower/water pump. Moving the door to the left and as far onto the landing as possible without having to move the bedroom doors will maximise space for minimum effort. Separate the end of the bath from the toilet with a cupboard the size of a low bookcase. A door on the end will hide toilet rolls and cleaning gear. A blocked shelf at the top will take toiletries for the bath with nice plant above. No view of toilet from bath but with daylight. Shower over enclosed end will contain water spray if the bath slope allows for standing there. I've found a shower curtain works better than a screen. A sturdy laundry bin you can sit on is really helpful in confined space.

Hi jo. I would try and play on the industriał vibe. Clean the metro tiles and maybe paint the blue tiles and border in grey. Paint all the pipes in copper (Im pretty sure you can do this). Update the taps. If you're on a tight budget and will redo the bathroom at some point, just get cheap ones. They won't last but should last long enough until you refit. If you really hate the floor then go for some wood effect vinyl. Get a statement piece of industriał art/sign to put on the wall. I can't work out, what is the wall covering behind the toilet?? In terms of the shower, do you have a handheld one at present?
