Recently I've started creating an Ideabook with all my must haves for my future home. They range from the luxurious to the downright ordinary, but they all play a special role for me.

So, if you're planning your perfect home, what's the one item you'd love to have? It could range from a kitchen cooker to a lamp! I'll kick it off - I want these Danish bar stools (see below)!

It has to be the iconic duck feet lamp - picture attached - quirky and downright beautiful!

Remember that Rome wasn't built in a day.. Neither the house you want to make a home... If the house feels right. With your Head and your heart, location. Then if it's the house for you it will work.. Move in and adjust each day... Yes you can put your Mark on the house, yes it will be your HOME... But live with it for at least a short while.. Don't be hasty to paint.. See where the sunshine..shines...See where it makes dull on a dark day...So you Can add a mirror maybe to reflect the daylight.. Don't make the pennies stretch any further than they are.. Remember that sadly the bills have to come first..!!!.... Improvise pieces to fit and...if you have to save for the right item....Then save..!!! it will be more practical in the end , rather than buying for the sake of it and having to buy another a few months down the line... Don't fill every room with furniture.... My biggest mistake... Use a piece like a sideboard and think practically the uses.... Is it big enough.. One more draw or cupboard would have better than two smaller ones...don't be afraid to add old stuff that we all now reuse..paint it ...add your own art work... It's a long journey.. To find the destination of all your dreams... And when you feel you have achieved what you have done...then sit back and enjoy all your hard work. And live in your HOME... Enjoy. Relax.. And above all have fun...

Lights which automatically turn on when I enter a room (especially in the kitchen and in the hallway from the bedroom to the bathroom) and lights inside my wardrobes (especially inside the one in the bedroom: I often get up earlier than my hubby, and it may be still dark outside, and I don't want to wake him up while I'm looking for my stockings).

What a terrible question to have to consider- How could you ever choose??? Many say family photos - but you know what - if I lost mine it wouldn't matter too much because I can remember my life in pictures - I was there. We take so many photos on our phone and never look at them we need to try to think back more and remember. My cat? Well, he's not a possession - he chooses to live with us and we are his servants! I suppose it would have to be my first guitar I used professionally - a 1950/early 60s (?) Hofner Congress. Here - have a laugh, this is me in about 1978: The guitar lasted better than I did !

sianember - Love the mirrors! They bring back happy memories. I have a business 'upcycling' furniture - although I've been doing it for over 20 years now and recycling was hardly a thing, let alone upcycling, in those days :D - but I started out selling mirrors on Greenwich market. A friend and I would find old mirrors in junk shops (this was in the halcyon days when every high street had at least one, sadly they are few and far between now) and we would 'pimp' them and sell them. We were particularly fond of using shells as they were free, meant we got to spend a day at the seaside and we could use the children to collect them!

Not exactly an item but when I was at university, a friend's parents house had a private walled courtyard that could only be accessed via their bedroom or bathroom. I would love to have one of these and somehow have a sliding roof over the bathroom or even an outdoor shower so I could shower in the sunshine.

I'd also love a big flexible room so I could have friends over, have casual parties and easy places for people to sleep over, so not so much about an item but flexible spaces to spend easy time with friends.

I would love to have a large through wall marine aquarium with an adjacent fish room to house all of the equipment and make tank maintenance easy.

I have the boiling water tap so for me it has to be the sous vide steam oven from aeg.. I love cooking and using steam not only enhances texture and taste but encourages me to cook more fresh food from scratch. Alternatively the standard steam oven Combi would do just fine.

I would love a simple BBQ (big enough for two but to scale up for friends to join in) that uses wood, even a barrel BBQ would be good, with shelter or lid over it would be fabulous ... and even better a house with a garden to put it in! although have found a balcony BBQ I may be able to hang on a window ledge (the reverse way that this one is hung) from the kitchen window in my flat! Growing up we used a large laundry sink with holes drilled in the bottom and a metal shelf from an old oven and it worked a treat ... I like these low-tech reuse solutions! They save waste and work well.This one may have to do for now and fingers crossed will not billow too much smoke inside and trigger the fire alarms!

I'd love a double front door, I always think a double door looks generous particularly when leading into a large hallway.

I'd also love a utility room with washer, dryer and space for storage and ironing. That would free up some space in my kitchen for a range cooker and an American fridge freezer.

I'd also like an en suite shower room but we have an upstairs family bathroom and a downstairs shower room and there's only 2 of us so that's probably greedy!!

One of my projects for next year is trying to make our front garden into a cute little courtyard.

a downstairs toilet! we only have 1 loo and there's 5 of us but nowhere to put one. A loft conversion but we can't stand up in it so that's a no too. A self cleaning house and I would like to set fire to next doors dead tree!! sick of looking at it!!

A super expensive fitted grinding coffee machine because God might read this. A warming drawer to keep dinners warm when kids come home at different times and for baking bread. Up and over doors on upper cabinets because I keep banging my head accidentally. A metal plate with target on fitted to wall for when I want to bang my head, repeatedly. A vase that remembers to fill itself with flowers. I could go on

A pantry. They were so old fashioned and taken out and now I realise how good they were. Somewhere where all the tins, bowls, cooking implements and food stuffs could go out of the way. I have so much stuff it falls out of cupboards, and I use it all so I need to keep it. A walk in pantry with shelves and a cool slab for cooling stuff before the fridge gets it. Sounds like bliss to me.

I want a girlie dressing room complete with a make up desk and good lighting. I'm getting close, I'm stealing the smallest bedroom in my next house for one. It's not next to my bedroom so it's not perfect but I'm taking it! On a smaller scale, I'd like to grow my (presently small) collection of quality vintage silver cutlery. I need to have 4 of my existing 8 places settings restored and need to find 4 more place settings to complete it.

I'm feeling pleased to say I have now be later in life been enjoying some of the things I'd love to have, for some time so they don't count for my 'one thing I'm still hoping for..' I love my upmarket induction hob with timer that saves my food from my memory when distracted by a phone call for a chat-length of time; no day goes by without the thrill of pulling open my kitchen's larder cupboard where the contents are so visible and high space is utilised. I agree with ? about having a bidet and have just had one installed and another wish - a walk-in shower Yeah!

You have to factor in having pans which are suitable i.e. ferrous bases and I would advise getting the biggest hob you can fit and afford to allow space between rings for the likes of a large wok or big preserving pan. Mine's a DeDeitreich and unilke my Neff combi oven has been utterly reliable for over 10yrs. The only downside of induction is for people with heart pacemakers as the magnetism affects that technology.
