Rectangle room layout help!

I have a 44sqm sitting room which is cut into two shapes - rectangle and square. I want to use all of the room and happy to divide as designated sections, I need layout ideas with furniture style help?
I'd love colour help to work around a teal coloured sofa too?

This white recliner leather sofa is beautiful. Do you like it? It is a bit higher than other sofa.

Our guest en-suite is pretty much the same size as your loo 2.60m x 1.40m. It was built as a wet room with underfloor heating, but we added shower doors after a while, as the toilet (seat) would take a long time to dry after showering. I love the layout, it's simple and efficient. As for colours, my preference was for black tiles on the floor and red glazed tiles in the shower to complement, however hubby thought it would look too Gothic and we ended up with some safe 'swimming pool' glass mosaic. There's also a slim towel warmer behind the door, not visible in the photo. As your space is wider, I think you could create an alcove like in the Grosvenor Riverside pic. Let me know if you want more details, I can give you exact measurements if you need them. Good luck!

It's a gorgeous room. I love the dramatic colour. If you can bear to part with a few things and have a little bit of a purge of books and toys that will help to relieve storage pressure. Then you could create some cupboards to the bottom of the alcove shelves so that toys can be hidden away. Moving the piano to behind the door will help with creating a more open feeling when you first step into the room, but add a door stop so the door and piano are protected from hitting into each other. Moving the chaise to where the piano is now and adding storage trunk/window seat would create a nice grouped seating space. You could use a central low table with storage incorporated as a multi-functional coffee table and arts/crafts space for the children.

Hiya, I've come up with some options for your nursery with the attached floor plan which is to scale along with some additional design suggestions. I think option 1 or 2 work quite well. With option 1 your son has plenty of room to play :) I've also added a little side table to put things down when you are sitting in the rocking chair. Hi Yasemin, I have added a very basic templated 3D model to give you the gist of how I’d lay out the space. Please take no notice of the styling, the templates are just what I had to hand on the computer. So I would use bench seating along the back wall for your dining table seating. This would allow you to push the table back further than you can with conventional chairs and thus keep traffic flow unrestricted through the space. There are a wide range of benches available these days from basic and beautiful wooden constructions (just add cushions if you wish), to sumptuous fully upholstered luxury pieces. There is also room for a sideboard for your tableware, you could create a beautiful sightline out of this by adorning it with table lamps and/or decorative accessories. Some wall art would be great here too. I wasn’t sure what the space was at the other end of the room (with glazed door), is this your main entrance? If it is you will need an outerwear storage facility of some sort. If its not a main traffic route then it could be a lovely space for a desk and study area. Good luck with your new apartment. L :)

I'd suggest you to place your dining table at the place where the wall light is. And your tv to be put on the brown tv cabinet where the vacuum cleaner is. Place your sofa opposite your tv where the powerpoint is.

Hi Lynette. Do you have a floor plan with measurements and doors etc as its difficult to work out the space by the stairs? Is this also to be used as a dining space, study area etc or purely as a lounge?

If you are definitely having a teal sofa I would go for a vintage shape in a velvet or a retro mid century style.

And then base the rest of the style around the sofa.

Here's the plans. There's bi fold wooden doors where the original door is placed on here 5m width.
Also corner fire surround to the same wall.

That is a tricky one! I would create the tv area on the right hand side (as per image). So the tv on the wall to the right as you come out of the dining room (not necessarily hung on the wall) with a console table/cabinet on the adjacent wall. I would then have a corner sofa facing the tv under the window with a small coffee table creating a square. I'd have a chaise or contemporary lounge chair in front of the bifolds positioned about 4ft in front. I'd add an arc lamp over the chair (on the right hand side as you look at the pic) and have something like a cowhide rug with an unusual shape in front of the chair so you're bringing items into the middle of the room. Add chairs either side of the fireplace, could also add a table and rug. Finally a sofa in front of the stairs with a bookcase or cabinet in front of the radiator on the right. It sounds like a lot of seating but it is a very large room. Would add cabinets, floor lights, large decorative objects in any gaps.

Hi Minnie, thanks for your comment. To have the tv on the right hand side wall and corner sofa would either block the entrance to the room or block the bi-fold view. I suppose it's tricky to see the full view from the images.
The width on the rectangle side is 2 1/2 meters which will be quite tight for a comfortable seating space.
How about colour ideas with the teal sofa, I'm definitely thinking corner sofa though?
I'm thinking block tone to fire surround wall (poss grey) teal sofa?
Which type of ornamental pieces? I like eclectic, Art Deco, hollywood regency...

Hi Laura, yes was thinking on the lines of velvet corner sofa to divide the two spaces but still have a flow.

What about soft furnishings, I'm not so great with the detail!

The house is a converted barn and This is what I've done in the master bedroom. There's a lot of random things in each room and they're very different but with the same eclectic feel.

Hi Lynette. For the plan and pics it looks as if you have c9ft under the window and 11ft depth to the dining room wall? If so, this should be more than sufficient for a tv area. If not, I am slightly unsure as to where a tv would go but a pro may know in an instant! I think you will end up with 3 zones but that will be great for the room. Can you post a pic of the colour teal you have in kind? Re decorative objects, add ginger jars, ornate mirrors, floor lamps etc. if you love the hollywood style add chinoiserie wallpaper, geometric cushions, a chandelier and a bit of bling! The chaise longue would be great!

Here's the pics!

I went with the feeling I had for the room shape. I painted the main wall floor to ceiling in a Matt mid grey and also the fire surround for something a little different.

Visually I broke up the room into two separate shapes, the lounge area being the square part of the room which houses an integrated TV. This was created by making a faux wall to house wires etc to give a flush finish, plus the walls are not straight!
I went for a teal velvet HUGE sofa (although the shots came out royal blue?)
I've got a lot of finishing to do but the gorgeous reflective wall paper under the stairs fills the area with lots of light, I'll put a lamp in the corner for more in the evenings.

I'm now working on the rectangular part of the room and will be back with completed images.

What do you guys think so far?
