Please help with my paint choice dilemma!
Comments (14)I would paint all the walls a soft buttery yellow - Restoration Hardware's Butter would be perfect. New window covering in the alcove could be a roman-style roll-up blind (you can find good inexpensive ones at K-Mart) that would pick up the tones from the wood floors and shutters. Art with red, gray and yellow matting hung in a grouping over the fireplace would add a classy touch. Your current furniture needs to be re-arranged in an attractive, more intimate way. Turn red rug the long way in front of fireplace and place couches across from each other on either side of the rug. Store some of the red striped cushions. Attractive but too many. Unclutter and re-arrange the items on the shelves. Rebecca...See MoreNeed help with main floor paint colour
Comments (13)All three photos were taken on overcast days. In the 2nd and 3rd photos, you can see that there are a lot of windows, all south facing, so the space does receive a lot of sunlight normally. Also, I have the pot lights on for 2nd and 3rd photos. Additional photos show that the nice fuzzy cream rug is actually way too small for the space, and I have no table lamps or coffee table. Also, our furniture is old, so time to update. The dining nook and kitchen are all in the one big open space. You can see the colour of the kitchen cabinets in the last shot: cherry with a brown stain. Stools are similar, The curtains are from Ikea and are a little lighter than the trim. I am thinking about getting dark brown woven shades. I love the idea of white walls, but just a little timid. The green looks pretty good in these photos... maybe I should just finish off the rooms with a large area rug, coffee table, lamps and a few accessories and call it a day? My next house will be more modern with white walls (hopefully)!...See MoreTeenage Bedroom paint colour help
Comments (11)@Rozanne K, it's great your son doesn't bother, he trusts you. But ask him for the final word anyway. Colours influence our moods and feelings, it's a good read. For a 13, if you really love and want dark colour for his bedroom then we would recommend using the bold on/as a feature wall. Use a colour to influence his mood. Pick up the right wall though, so he sees the colour and that it has some light in. Paint other walls and ceiling in another complimentary colour, brighter than darker. No other than a mother knows his son, you know what he likes, his persona. Use this knowledge. Good luck, Paintforme...See MoreWhat colour to paint shelves/trim against wallpaper
Comments (48)Thank you for all the comments! We decided against green partly as I think it would be too much of a contrast - I don’t want the room to be even more fussy - and partly because we have dark blue sofas, and I’m not a fan of blue and green. The pink is a good rich tone and matches the pink in the wallpaper well. I’ve tried to pick out three key colours for the room - pink, blue and white (or orange), plus some highlight colours - yellow, teal and orange (or white). The thinking behind this is that at the top and bottom of the walls the main colours in the wallpaper are pink, orange and white (which also makes me unsure that green would work at skirting level, while the pink might be less drastic). We already have some pink in the room (lamps, cushions) and it works. So there is a kind of method to my madness! I love the idea of floor-length curtains and was originally planning on that but they can’t be hung around the window seat. Thank you for all the help and advice - I wish I’d come on here years ago as this room has been a real headache! We love the wallpaper though and are determined to make it work. The blinds have already been ordered in the fabric shown!!!!!! - I’ll report back with a photo. If it’s a disaster I guess I can make a lot of cushions... x...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
