We are close to completing refurb on our Dublin(ireland)town house. Looking for advice on measuring up fitting blinds for bedroom sash windows

Hi there, what did you end up going with on your windows? We're in the same boat the moment...torn between roman blinds only or plain roller blinds with curtains...

Hi Tracy, if you're after the best of both you can get shutters on a gliding track (see below) which look really nice but note that this can be quite an expensive option. Alternatively you could vertical blinds or even rollers which can be kept out of the way when you want the window exposed or even hung outside the recess if required. Hi lu9349 This is a really pretty window feature and I think that the addition of a window seat is an excellent idea here. For my first roman blind I used a roman blind kit from Dunelm, worked out great. I then used those instructions to go on to make a further 12 (never buy a house with 5 sided bay windows!) and purchased the bits needed from terrysfabrics as mentioned by Catherine Byrne. They are really straightforward. The key is to take your time with your measurements/calculations and with ensuring your edges and rod pockets are straight.

Hi Isidora Markovic Thank you for the images. I see what you mean - shutters could work. My concern about no door dressing is being seen when we're in the rooms at night with the lights on. Also for security reasons when away on holiday. We are in the countryside so the only night time lighting is from motion sensored security lighting fixed to the outside of my neighbours detached houses either side - sited some 10m and 20m respectively. One opening is south facing and the other south west, so I need to factor in being able to reduce sunlight. I think I'll research shutters. I have had them before in a previous house but they were chunky to suit the age of the house. Maybe there are slim line versions on the market now.

We ended up getting roller blinds from Douglas Blinds on Camden Street. They were v efficient, came and measured up and then designed and fitted them.
