Comments (13)FAB window. How about a hinged rod, or a room width rail. The 1st will open and sit against a wall, to be closed when needed, or one at each side. The curtains would be floor to ceiling and look gorgeous whether open or shut. A room width rail at ceiling height could sit the curtain to the left of the window when open, perhaps with a luxurious tie back and the curtain, when pulled over, would cover the entire wall as before. I DARE you to go for WHITE linen or, better still, WHITE velvet. Stunning! Bee...See Morepossible bookcase for darkish mid century living room
Comments (3)Thanks so much for these responses! Yes string shelving would be a great idea and would add lightness to the room while keeping the style. Unfortunately the external wall is also insulated with plasterboard because of damp problems so it would be quite complicated and risky to hang anything on it. I have now bought a Brouer Mobelfabrik rosewood bookcase for the one side . After it is in place, I will have to see whether an additional piece would work for the other side But all these are good ideas as I have another room with an internal wall where primary colours and string shelving would look great Thanks for your advice!...See MoreWindow advice mid century property
Comments (0)Our 1970s town house is a bit of a work in progress with a limited budget. However we need to replace the windows on the back for security reasons and also because they are all the original wood and not in a good way. The front ones were done before we arrived and are brown pvc, white inside. I was considering getting black pvc on the back with a plan to eventually upgrade the horrible white Conservatory. would This work with the style of house do you think? And would this be the best option. Or are New wood frames an option ? . No idea on price differenc. I know it’s never going to be an ultra mid century modern property but would like to make the best choices to make the best of what we have. Looking forward to peoples suggestion....See MoreAdvice on windows for mid century renovation
Comments (5)Really interesting to see some of your thoughts - I looked up the original architect design and found this - so they had the large pane pivoting in the middle, the small panel lifting up at the top, and the bottom fixed section (with the wooden mullions running across it) Does anyone know what the thin section of window at the top is designed for? Is it worth having? It looks a bit weird to me, but I can see from the photos shared it must be typical. How about this really simplified? The bottom sections on the top and middle floors would have to be fixed for building regs. Do you think we have enough flexibility of ventilation just having one huge panel? I don't know much about tilt and turn, can they be this large? (The windows are 1.8m wide, and 2m tall on the middle floor). Or this, simplified but with a few more divisions if important for function? In materials it sounds like plain alu is winning (not the alu clad timber like velfac). This would save us about 10k so not too sad if alu is recommended!! Huge thanks!...See MoreThe Sofa Company
