Custom fireplace mantel?

Hi, is that mantel custom or can you buy a similar one somewhere? Thanks.

The countertop fabricator installed the stone surround and the carpenter built the wood mantle which was then painted in a semi-glass paint. The wood is trim. The same trim that is used for a crown molding on a ceiling can be used to get this look around the fireplace.

Hi Obo1. I think you should paint it satin black, it clashes with your new floor, black will blend in with the cast iron inset of the fireplace already, I notice you have some black furniture, and black as a non colour will blend with anything else you add to the room. Another idea for you, hang an oil on canvas reproduction on your favourite artist above it. It would add a contemporary meets classic element to your interior decor. It's all down to personal preference isn't it? You could try finishing the coffee table in a taupe and then tie in the sofas to match, but stain the top and the fireplace to match the floor. Throw in a little turquoise, always works well with browns and taupes. Or you could go the whole hog and finish everything to match for a more blended, calm look. Makes the whole room look lighter. If you choose to paint the top of the coffee table, i'd recommend having a piece of glass cut to cover the painted surface, or maybe laquering it / varnishing, over the top of the paint for added durablility. Have you ever thought about swapping the two sofas over? Then you could relax against the arms facing the fireplace.

As an alternative you could just mirror the alcoves and have art over the fire. It may not need to be toughened then. If you want it over the mantle I'd just have a mirror rather than go the whole width of the chimney breast if that's what you meant
