putting a toilet downstairs

the house I am buying does not have a downstairs toilet. is it easy to have one fitted? does it have to be located in the same position as the upstairs toilet in order to access the sewage pipes? is it an expensive job?

You can put a WC anywhere as long as you have nearby water.
Ideally the soil pipe or the underground sewer will also be near but you can get around that with a macerator (Saniflo).

Jonathan - that is exactly one option we're considering. The only 'downside' is that it breaks up the flow of open space between the front of the house and the kitchen and back. I'll post more sketches tomorrow. To be honest all the options I'm lookin at have a downside I'm not wanting to compromise on. I realise now we always have to compromise on something. It's just a question of what I'm willing it give on. Thank you for replying. Please share your thoughts after I've posted more drawings.

Hi Dynamo, I'm responsible for the design in your photo and delighted you like the look of this room. You would only need a few square meters of the split mosaic tiles which are available of sheets, so not expensive for a striking feature. Also, easy to keep free of dust with a quick once over with a dust pan brush, or brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner . WC's are often overlooked but when you consider its a room you use every day and your guests use too, why not make it an enjoyable experience! An alternative and very inexpensive idea for your walls and my signature in practically every home I renovate, is installing 6mm MDF panelling with a 10mm shadow gap in between each panel, apply with Pink Gripfil adhesive. 600mm x 600mm square or horizontal panels of any height add a sense of depth and soul to boring flat, painted walls. A sheet of MDF is cheap as chips, just make sure you prime and undercoat thoroughly with a mini roller before applying eggshell finish or acrylic paint. It's not a main bathroom so not susceptible to humidity, therefore emulsion paint in a contrast shade will work well too. I am glad you like it. Obviously, it all depends on careful measurements and subject to building regulation. Since you like the hallway on the left idea and planning to convert the conservatory, I think it is better to move the dining to where the lounge now is and open the kitchen into the living room creating a breakfast island. then the current dining room would become a reception / library/ media room. and the back of the house would become a social / entertaining area. it is also a good idea to utilise the space under the stairs to accommodate storage for shoes, coats, umbrellas etc.

We are in process of upgrading our downstairs toilet. Looking at doing a wall hun toilet & would love to create a sloping floating sink like the pic below but they are so expensive. It’s not a huge area but we would struggle with depth so was looking at small hun sink. I would like to put white metro tiles half way up with wooden top as shelf. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 🙏
