2d copy and paste programmes

Hi all, I have just discovered this discussion page and noted that people have spoken of programmes where you can add different windows etc to a photo of your own home. Are these sites free to use and can you recommend one as I am in early stages of planning ideas so don't want an architect yet

Thanks so much everyone - this has been great. Sorry for the lack of response - been flat out!!!! It must be hard for you American guys to work on such old English designs.... The ideas have gradually culminated into what really would look good on the house. Ourfarmhouse - these are absolutely great ideas, and thanks Everything Beautiful for getting the jist and putting the ideas onto the house image - nothing like seeing an actual design on your own home. We've got an architech working on it, and he's keen on the iron-wrought idea... but we're not sure. Basically toss-up with this and Everything Beautiful's design (2 above). Going with a four-pannel door, but would like to incorporate some glass somewhere! Possibly a panel above with the house name engraved on it?? Victoria - absolutely right...! We don't need to sit outside with the weather.......... say no more! Just wanting something to cover yourself while you're unlocking the door. We've also done a tour of the local areas, and found a couple of porches - amazing what you find right on your doorstep! Will attach pics shortly...

it says J J 1909, my house was built in 1984 so it must have come from the old man's parents' house? His surname was Jacquier. i have been trying to brush the cast iron plate with a toothbrush, a lot of soot has come off but there's a lot of creosote on there. i'm going to see if there's something a bit more efficient than my son's old toothbrush!! also, because of the bicarbonate i can't get in there without getting my jeans dirty! really pleased with it though! might do another wash and see if i can get any more off!

I buy one or two cookbooks every year for inspiration (last one was Jamie's Everyday Super Food), but only keep hold of a few old favourites or speciality books, so my cookbook shelf is quite modest. Over the past 5 years I've gone digital and all my favourite recipes, whether they came from cookbooks or magazine clippings originally, are hunted down online to copy into Evernote. Handily, several of the big-name cooks publish their popular recipes on their own websites. This way I've got a bespoke cookbook of my favourite recipes, annotated with my own tweaks, which can be used on a smartphone for ingredient shopping, or an an iPad while cooking. I do find it really satisfying flipping through a new cookbook and tagging the pages of recipes I want to try, so I'll keep buying the cookbooks as well as using online resources.

Hi there 81bec. I'm not sure if you've gotten started on the chances to your patch of garden, but if you haven't here are some tips, from someone who also loves low maintenance gardens that are drought proof but look gorgeous all year round..start buy getting rid of the camellia, what ever evergreen is hiding behind it and the red robin..leaving the one plant you actually seem to like, the Cordyline (good choice). Rake away all the gravel and lay down some good compost (after planting, layer over with mulch as it'll stop weeds and retain moisture, resulting in a lower maintenance garden). Next, put a piece of trellis against the side of the porch that currently has the camellia and evergreen and plant a Trachelospermum Jasminoides (Star Jasmine)-it's evergreen, a climber, low maintenance and has dark green leaves in summer with clusters of strongly fragrant white star-shaped flowers and rusty red leaves in winter, lovely. Next, plant a mix of Pennisetum Firework grass and Ox-eye daisies (sometimes called Marguerite) at the back near the wall. In the middle "row" plant a mix of Stipa Tenuissima (Mexican Feather Grass) and Echinacea (purple coneflower) and in the front, maybe either side of a wooden love seat, plant Chasmanthium Latifolium (Spangle grass). All are showstoppers year round, low maintenance, drought proof and do well in sun or semi-shade. The grasses all need the same kind of care once a year, as do the flowers, meaning you only have to do maintenance twice in a year as well as a little watering when it's really dry in exchange for year round interest and beauty that will perfectly compliment the Cordyline.
