We do have a Steptoe's up here not far from us but it's (dare I say it) wretched! Dark, not clean, badly organised. The one near you, though, AMAZING! We go down every year and take two big cars (we have a Picasso and our friends who live in Devon have a Forester), lol, fill them to the brim every year:) Last year we ended up shipping a lot of it back to Scotland as otherwise we wouldn't have got us, the luggage, and the Roo in to go home!

I have a charcoal bell type BBQ which does the job but last time I used it it was like an inferno, literally a completely out of control fire! Probably more my cooking skills rather than the actual BBQ. I saw this BBQ at the garden centre today which looks great - but do they work? Or are they just like using a disposable one but nicer looking? I'd be interested in any experiences.

When we extended our house last year with a large fireplace we wanted a multi fuel burning stove. However the regulations regarding flue and chimney meant the neighbours would have been subjected (and may have objected) to this eyesore, even if at the back of the house. We settled for a Gas version. The stove itself (Huntington) looks exactly the same as the multi fuel version. However, we are really delighted with it. The flame looks really genuine and as others have stated there is no cleaning out and we have instant heat and sometimes so much output that we no longer have to turn on the central heating in the lower rooms! A real success. (Awaiting our first gas bill however).

Thanks Gary - looks great and it's made me rethink how viable my budget really is...As we also need to decorate, do some replastering, new skirting boards, maybe do some re-wiring, get a new carpet and some Roman blinds made for the bay window. Some great money saving tips, thanks Steve. I think I'm going to get a fireplace guy to come and look at how viable the fireplace is in terms of having a wood burner and how much it would cost to change it and then have a think. I'm also loving the idea of getting a cheap wooden fire surround -maybe a secondhand one off eBay and painting it up in a contesting colour - like the attached image but not the same colours - probably a vibrant orange.. I also love 1940's and 1950's tiled fireplaces as would have probably been there originally - but the repro versions or decent old ones are so privy..
