Dining room advice

I need some advice on how to decorate my dining room, colours that I can you. My tv room and dining room are not far apart, see my tv room colours on picture below. I already bought a table and a sever for my dining room and saw some antique chairs that I will need to restore and cover( I also need advice on what colour of fabric I should use). One more thing, what can I use to make my tv room vavavoom?

Your tv room is very nice but it seems like all the colours there blend together.
A little bit of tweaking would go a long way . I think the dark table sitting on the dark rug is a little heavy and maybe changing one or the other would help.

Hi. I think you need some colour in the tv room. Try adding some coloured cushions, everything is neutral so any colour will go. I would probably also add black patterned or trimmed cushions with whatever colour(if your table is black as it's hard to work out all the colours in the pics!). I don't think the room is quite big enough for a separate chair arrangement so I would make them part of the sofa arrangement so turn them so they're directly opposite the sofa and maybe lose the table and use elsewhere. I'd also pull the sofa in from the patio door a little. accessorise the coffee table, either 3 or 5 bits, of differing heights. Something in silver or chrome would add some light, maybe a contemporary ornament on top of a book or something or a metallic lacquer tray and then maybe something in a colour to match the cushions or just flowers each week. Re dining room, I'd carry through one of the neutral colours from the tv room for the walls maybe do a feature wall picking up the same colour as the cushion or something that coordinates. A patterned fabric for the chairs would add interest and suit the style. Then lamps/urns/vases for the server with a bowl or something in the middle. Also try mirrors in both rooms to increase the light.

Hi cj73. I agree with @minnie101 that the taupe sounds good but do check the colours before ordering. Sometimes two brown tones together look awful so get samples of both the grey and the taupe coloured tiles and lay them down on your wooden floor to see which looks best. Look at them in daylight and in artificial light. The tiles will need to be grouted so that is another colour decision you need to take. If you can get samples of the grout colours while you are considering the tiles it will be very useful at this stage to try a few options out. Good luck. Yasmin

I think this should work well as a concept, but a lot if it's success will hang on the quality of the finish, and getting the right doors will be critical to that. There is absolutely no reason you cannot keep the period charm and still get good performance. A set of Accoya doors with high performance glazing and a good multipoint locking system will offer all the security, thermal efficiency and longevity of aluminium or pvc, and still allow you to keep the period detailing. If you have a rough floor plan and approximate dimensions for the new space, we can look at layout options for the kitchen cabinets themselves, and see how well the space will work from a day to day usage standpoint.

Do you have a photo of the wall opposite the fire? i think the issue is the furniture in front of the cupboards, as they're blocking them it doesn't visually look right IMO. Could the cabinet and the tv go on the wall opposite the fire? I don't know whether this would be in budget (or practical re storage) but converting the cupboards to shelves could work? I would accessorise the side table and add some stems on the dining table, some scandi style place mats would also soften it and add some pattern ( in a different colour to shown). The lamp from Dunelm might work rather than the one in the photoshop. I think the art is too big. I would hang a rectangular piece in line with the end of the table. For paint, I might look at an olive (if bookshelves aren't in budget paint the doors and radiator in the wall paint) and then just have linen roman blinds
