How to paint a door frame between two rooms?

Our hall has 6 doors leading off it

As an example, our dining room woodwork is colour A but the hall woodwork is colour B.

Do I do both sides of the door frame in the same colour? Or do the dining room side A -and hall B?

And if I do each a different colour where do they meet?

If I do it the same colour as one of the rooms I'm going to have 6 door frames in varying colours in the hall. Or a dining room where window frame / sill / skirting board are one colour and the door frame another

Help. I must be missing something.

Hi,

When you open the door in to the room, space where hinges are placed on the frame should be painted in the same color as in hall. Door from hall site is painted in the same color even on the egde where hinges are on the door, then it make sens, when the door are open you see same color showing on frame and the door.

If you close the door and stand in the dining room you would paint the frame and door the same colour as the rest of the woodwork in the dining room (colour A). Then in the hallway you paint the door and frame the colour chosen for woodwork in the hallway (colour B). On the side of the door where the latch is this would be painted colour A if the door opens into the dining room. Hope that makes sense!

As the doorway doesn't look especially wide, maybe as an alternative to building out of the wall you could use a little visual trickery? Find a colour a few shades darker than your wall and paint the underside of the boxing with the frames on it then continue that in a stripe down the wall and the same on the opposite side?

You have two choices. The floor levels are different so either the builder creates a sloping board to join the floors ( not desirable) or the boards on the lower floor are taken up and relaid with a packer such as plywood beneath to bring to the same height. Obviously more expensive but long term a better solution. Alternatively you can ply board on top of your existing lower floor and put a new floor finish on both sides.

Hi David, congrats on your purchase! You've had a lot of great ideas here. What would make the flat better after you do knock down the wall; I would: - opening up the existing door to living to full height/ width opening (possibly hidden pocket door) = would frame the area nicely without boxing another room up - square off the hallway by moving small bedroom door forward (waste of space & odd now) - swap/ mirror small bedroom door where the wardrobe is (wont be staring into door from your bigger kitchen/ entertainment area) - same with the bathroom = end up with bigger space! - block kitchen door/ remove WC wall/ square off bathroom & move door = bigger bathroom Hope that help! mMx

Hi Lizzie, For us folding glass doors / bifold doors provide the flexibility to open up the space when desired, or close it off for privacy or separation. This can be particularly useful for multi-functional spaces like you have, where you may want to adapt the layout depending on the occasion (eating / dining / entertaining etc). That said, the folding doors can help contain cooking noises and odours, which can be beneficial if you frequently entertain guests or enjoy quiet time in your living room. However, keep in mind that glass doors may not be as effective at soundproofing. If your goal is to create a seamless transition between the two spaces and let the light flood in, glass doors may be an excellent choice. Just as an FYI, we have a selection of internal bifold doors or internal french doors - with plenty of glazing options and styles. Best of luck with the renovation.

Our door frames are painted different colours in the hall and the rooms. I can't explain that well as Adrian and campo but can post pictures later this evening or tomorrow morning (I am not home at the moment).
