Help with new construction master bath

We are building a home and I am struggling with master bath lay out. This is the lay out I came up with, but am wondering if there would be a better one? Our bath room is a 12x10. I would love a door less walk in shower and a jetted tub. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please forgive my drawing skills!!!

Comments (9)You could perhaps still have a walk in wardrobe and ensuite - think about it like it's an upscale hotel room. Are you a bather or a showerer? The answer will dictate what you want in your ensuite. If the ensuite is more of a wetroom than an actual bathroom it won't take up as much square footage - baths tend to be bigger than shower enclosures and if you want a bath, then there's one in the main family bathroom in your plan, so go for a deluxe shower. http://www.houseplanshelper.com/master-bedroom-floor-plans.html has some good advice and potential room plans including ensuites. There's one where the ensuite and walk in are along one wall which leaves the rest of the room for the bed. Based on your plan, you might lose the windows on one side for the ensuite and wardrobe, but you'd still have the big patio doors for light. You could have it arranged so that you walk through the wardrobe to access the bathroom. Pocket doors mean you wouldn't have to worry so much about the swing into the room. I'd also have the bathroom sharing the same wall as the existing bathroom so there's less plumbing and drainage work to do. Don't get a macerator/SaniFlo; we had one when we moved in and it made so much noise that we couldn't flush or shower or wash in the evening/night for fear of waking the neighbours. You can also get those beds where the TV is in the footboard. That might be a space saver. If you're clever with the layout of the ensuite and walk in wardrobe you might still have room for a nice sitting area (always good for reading in peace or getting dressed/undressed) and a dressing table/desk - your current plan seems to have a lot of unused floor space - though that might be what you're after. The dressing table could be under the window next to the patio doors. It would be close to the door, but a nice stool that tucks under the countertop would work - how often is the door and the dressing table going to be used at the same time? :) Edited To Add: Here's a wee mockup - I guesstimated the window and door sizes and placements and it's an Ikea Hemnes double bed and side tables....See MorePlanning new bathroom and ensuite Argh!
Comments (19)I'm not moving or building walls, or knocking through doorways until I'm sure what I want. Living in the house while remodeling it is quite a challenge. There are very differing opinions around what size the bathrooms should be here too. Having only one door in the bedroom has massive advantages where there is no door right next to his side of the bed being a superking, and also having no door there means that any other bed, even a king could be moved to back onto that wall, tv opposite wall etc. As a main bedroom with a double bed, there isn't room for a wardrobe due to the window size, those drawers are all we have, and the rest is in suitcases ...hence my insistence of taking a chunk out of the room next door to accommodate us.... more on shelving and shoes than hanging space though. There only really needs to be a decent shower for my husband in the en-suite and carry out the "three S's" on a morning. Plumbing worries me due to the structure of the house, so I'd like to try to make a common area eg back to back on the loos to help with what will already be a nightmare, however one on the external wall already may be a good thing. I want a good sized bath but not stand alone, I want surface area around it, none of this having to reach behind or to the end or to the floor for the shampoo and perching the soap dish on the side any more. At the moment, I take a little table and place it in the middle of the bathroom floor with candles and the tablet to catch up on shows, as this is really the only time and place I get to do that! The only time I see a shower cubicle is to wash dye out of my hair. Thanks for the sounding board and ideas, good to get opinions... Comments (10)Hiya, Ok so I've converted your measurements into mm so these are equivalent to ft, in drawing we use mm. So I think you will need to close off two windows to the east side to get a decent size walk in wardrobe. I've tried to leverage the longest wall in the bedroom without losing too much floor space. I've added your bed with some bedside tables and as you can see you have plenty of space still around you. Keeping the south side patio doors as that will give you light throughout the day. In terms of your walk in wardrobe I played with different sizes and came up with 50-70-50mm dimensions, you could go bigger or smaller as you have plenty of room. Although I would allow 1metre gap between your bed and the wardrobes otherwise it could get a bit crammed. Also think it would be useful and nice to have a little seat to put on shoes etc. you could even add a seat on the opposite side if you wanted. Allowing to entrances to your walk in wardrobe allows light to flow from one side to the other and it doesn't block your patio doors either. I've added lots of dimensions hope this helps!
