Personally I think the grass, yellow bricks and the fence are a bit too uninspiring. How about trying to break it up a bit - thin beds with climbers against fence and extra beds / pots / paths to add different levels. Think of cakes on a cake stand, the more levels, the better it looks. Red cedar slatted fence to replace the existing, trailing plants over the walls. Talk to a good gardener to talk about the right plants for their position and also consider doing a watering system to make it super low maintenance (they don't cost the earth). Good luck with it - post some photos of the project!

What a beautiful and perfect table you found! Hubba hubba - those legs are just gorgeous. Well done and thanks for calling out to me. As for the chair mix, I think four beige and two merlot would be lovely. I think you like a traditional look, so I'm a bit worried that you won't be happy with it. If the table will normally be smaller with four beige chairs around it and maybe put the two merlot ones on either side of the radiator cover/"console", then definitely do the mix. Mismatched chairs around a dining table are often all different or the same make and model in a multitude of colours or the same colour in different styles. Do a Houzz search and see if you can find your planned mix and if you like the look. If in doubt, get four beige and look at them for a while! You could tie the two chair colours together with little cushions on the chairs - maybe just on the two merlot ones. Hi Sonia. It’s the plant with a name that I can never spell...but I’ll have a go.... tatrapanax papyfirus ‘Rex’ ???? Chinese rice paper plant. Or aka The Triffid! That’s easier to remember. 😉. Apparently they can send out suckers from the roots several meters away so my neighbours might get a few babies in years to come. Can’t argue tho, it’s a fab jungly looking plant. Here’s the proud mum!

Well, I think you need to design the garden with islands of plants and the gravel as a river flowing through is. This is why they have the larger stones, as stepping stones to cross the ‘river’. You could also use Azaleas, very Japanese and they can ope with sunny spots. They need acidic soil. Did you already have Pinus sylvestris? Think that‘ll go very well. But the most important thing is the island structure with the gravel river, I think. So I suggest you’ll lay a rope through your gravel to see where you would like your river to flow and then create a couple of planted islands, some large, some smaller, and go from there. There are creeping plants for sunny spots that can mimic the moss for example. And do see if you can incorporate a water feature. A tub dug into the ground to hold the water with a pump and a rock or bowl on top to pump the water through. Simple, but effective. You only need electricity. Or a sun powered pump.
