Rug or no rug?
Comments (16)I back no rug too - and may I make another suggestion, budget permitting? Consider getting lined AND interlined Roman blinds instead of curtains for the window. It's a very tall room but seemingly a bit "chimney-like" because of its proportions. The tall thin curtains reinforce that feeling. Some wall mounted shelves from IKEA would be a great replacement for the somewhat random bookcase too. Rug might work then with a blind and wall-mounted shelving........See MoreMaster Bedroom
Comments (3)I like your room by the way, nice and classy. I think the chairs, the table, the bed and the desk are brilliant together and I love your curtains. However, I would change that light wood (pine?) sideboard and the bedside cupboards too. I think they don't quite match. Although, first I would try to change the handles and see if I can achieve a different (better) look. I would keep the lamps, they are nice. Behind the bed, below your light, I would choose 3 small classy artworks, possibly landscape paintings (you can find very nice ones on Etsy). I would place a dark blue - brown - beige patterned huge rug underneath the bed (or in 3 pieces around and in front of the bed), with a classy pattern that would bring warmth to the room and would compliment your beautiful bedding & curtains. I would decorate the side wall with paintings in a bigger size too. This will allow the room to feel less empty and will add warmth, you'll find it more cosy. You could possibly turn that desk into a dressing table with a nice mirror placed on top. A dark wood stool would match nicely with it. The first thing I would buy would be the rug(s), it will make the biggest difference. Hope this helps Anna. Have fun decorating....See MoreRug dilemma - 2 rugs - how to style
Comments (6)Also like traditional rugs, and i think using them just brings the same rules as any other. If using a specific rug, you need to build the room around it, and use colours in the rug as Forzaitalia says. So with the navy base you would have navy, maybe a bit of pale beige / to lighten, I think you may struggle a little to tie in your amrchairs as they are very bright, and the colour dominating, plus it's a colour that isn't in either rug. Personally I would say that if you want to work with the rugs, then i'd change the armchairs for a neutral colour. I too would go for the second rug as it's easier to work with and a bit less dated. However, yellow and blue will not work with that rug....See MorePlayroom decor - rug choice
Comments (3)As your playroom is also a guest room I would keep the decor neutral. I’m not convinced that young children actually use a playroom much as they’d rather be close to wherever mum or dad is in the house. However it’s good to have the option and space to store toys away from the bedrooms though. I’d definitely choose a rug, the bigger the better, with a short pile as Lego and other small bits and pieces will get ‘lost’ in a rug with a shaggy pile. Make sure you can clean it easily if you’re planning to have paints and glue! A small round table and a few stools would be useful for board games, crafts and jigsaws. Your IKEA storage unit with cube baskets is great for storing toys and sitting on if you put a few cushions on top. If you leave a few sections of it empty you can store big picture books inside, without the need for a separate bookcase. The sofa will be great for snuggling up and reading stories together....See More- 9 years ago
