Bringing it all together

This is our North West facing sitting room . It is quite A big room with an odd shape . I'd like to add colour and bring it all together . I like golds,orange,browns and reds .I plan to change the curtains ,rug,flooring and would like a round ottoman footstool/coffee table . I also plan to bring in pictures and mirrors but am not sure where to place them . A feature wall or wallpaper would be nice . I am at a loss and all suggestions are welcome .

Hello

I think the banana shaped sofa makes it difficult as it is so big , so I think I'll keep the one under the window and replace the curved one . I've chosen a Laura Ashley wallpaper to put up and am thinking of replacing the big TV stand with a table and painting the bookshelves a lighter colour so it doesn't look so busy .

I think you can defiantly achieve that look. I quite like the banana shapes sofa as I think it gives an extra dimension to the room I think if it was me I'd maybe remove the TV unit and everything else then play with placing the sofa since its your biggest piece you can place everything else around it. I'd definitely keep the window free from obstruction though. Especially if your wanting dark colours you could benefit from all the light you can get. I think artwork can be so expensive and if your anything like me you never find exactly what you want so letting the kids so it is a way to rectify that. I agree with the radiator cover idea and I would put a large, very wide, rectangular mirror above it instead of the photographs. I think this would do a much better job of expanding space and creating light than the mirror at the end of the hall (although there's no reason you can't have both). Depending on how it looks with the large mirror I might also remove the thing hanging to the left of the door. In the space in the second photograph I would either remove that photograph in between the door and cabinet on the left or I'd have it in a white frame if you'd really like something there. In the third photograph I like the idea of a collage of frames leading up the stairs, but I find these frames a bit too chunky and rustic looking in that space. I think some white-framed or black-framed photographs would look better like in the above post. There the frames are simple but the photographs themselves inject colour which is carefully chosen and the end result is crisp and fresh and looks fabulous. At the top of the stairs I think one large rectangular print would look better than the two smaller ones.

What a lovely room. It just needs a few finishing touches to give it a lift. From your photos, the oak floor looks slightly orange in tone as do your storage units. Orange will only serve to accentuate this and bring little to the scheme. Blue is a contrast to orange, so you may want to consider this. Try laying some colourful clothes on your bed, one at a time to see how it works in the room. To retain a restful feeling, you need a blue that coordinates with the quilt, which looks slightly beige. This photo will give you the idea. Purple is another colour to try, but it has more visual impact. Remember, a little colour will go a long way in your room.

I love your furniture! The couch, chair and ottoman look so cosy. I would add some textured throws to the couch and chair, and a couple more cushions. I'd also pull them away from the walls slightly, as this will actually make the space feel larger. The wall behind the couch is crying out for some art- it really depends on your taste and budget, but you could go with a couple of really large canvases, or a photo gallery with lots of mismatched frames? Just don't hang them too high! The lamp beside the armchair would be great standing on a side table, and I'd add another side table with a lamp beside the couch where the big box is. The room would definitely feel cosier with lamps on and the overhead lights off. For storage, I'd go for built in every time! I'm biased as I love my own built in shelves so much. They definitely make a room feel cosy and finished. I'd be tempted to build floor to ceiling on the tv wall, with shelves above and cupboards below. The only issue there I think is the height of the tv...could it be lowered? It seems uncomfortably high. If it can't be moved, then long low shelving would work better than a full height unit.

I wouldn't get rid of either of the settees. They look rather comfortable and seem to be part of your favourite colours. As far as I can see these are ox blood, red, black and a sort of parchment colour for the walls.
The busyness seems to be about your displayed objects which seem to have arrived randomly rather than arranged.
As proud owners of the trophies these could have their own display case. The book cases then could be for books, photos and medium sized treasures. If you don't have a full shelf of books an attractive bookend would keep them upright and look attractive. Try one third books one third photos and one third objects.

The lovely lady needs to find a place to show off maybe on the middle shelf above TV, perhaps with some interesting cacti or aloe Vera.

The rug is a bit small it could be bigger and maybe Persian carpet style.

Lighting for reading and lighting for mood would help.

Too any red cushions. More ox blood and red. White cushions don't look so interesting.

It seems potentially an evening room for being cosy, watching TV and reading. A larger coffee table would look good and pull sofas away from walls a bit.

If you are redecorating try making a mood board of your colours. Then you can tie it all together

Oh, and the clock, it's a bit small. If you do need the time then a large ornamental clock. Maybe that or a sunburst mirror..
The coffee table is interesting but needs to find a new home,we only see three walls in the photos.
