Stuck on wall and carpet colour...

Hi all. Would love your ideas on carpet and wall colouring for my bedroom. I have made the curtains out of the fabric attached in the pic. Floor to ceiling ones and interlined. Phew! The room is quite large and I'll be putting new fitted wardrobes in where i can actually get the doors open. Ceilings are high as I'm in a mansion flat. I have to have carpet unfortunately so no floorboards/rugs which I think would be much easier. They are really obsessively strict on this. Only other furniture at the moment is the chest of drawers and chair attached. Lastly it faces north, so the light is rather cold and also dark in winter.

I would paint the walls a neutral warm stone colour, sisal mini boucle fitted on the floor and pick out some of the colours from the fabric as accessories.

Laura Ashley's pale twine will suit the curtains and the north orientation. We are using it at the moment in our home that lacks light and though I disliked it at first, I love it now. It is between grey and taupe and looks very elegant.

If you want something a little softer then Mustard and grey can work well, you could use a bold mustard or a pale one depending on tastes. Same goes for pink and grey. Decide what paper style you like, Modern, bold, small print, large print, stripes, flowers??? Then work from there. You may be inspired with the colour scheme if you find a paper you like. For instance if you just google 'pink grey wallpaper' and look at images, this comes up:- If that's not to your liking try 'mustard grey wallpaper' They just help by giving you an idea of what you might like and what goes with what.

Dear Claire, I'd choose wooden floors any day over carpeted floors as they're much more durable and give an airier feel, however if you end up agreeing with your husband on having the room carpeted I'd recommend a warm grey carpet like my design shows below: When it comes to a wooden floor a whitewashed look might look modern but could provide too harsh a contrast, instead I'd opt for a mid-tone warm grey or pale brown. Personally I would avoid the pink carpet as it dictates your choices for a long time- if you want colour I would put it on the wall. As far as carpet colour goes I would choose something neutral. Grey falls into the neutral bracket but so do many lighter colours including heather colours which might work. As far as paint colour goes you may want to think about the white. People imagine Brilliant White will make a space feel bigger but in poor light can just feel grey and depressing. When you have a white in mind it might be worth posting another dilemma because there are some contributors on Houzz who have a very good eye for colour.

Gorgeous sofa. It does depend whether your mum prefers soft, neutral shades or whether she prefers rich jewel colours. She could go for a teal shade on the walls such as Oval Room Blue by F&B or a navy, but if she prefers something softer then any of the F&B or Dulux neutrals would go well. With the carpet I would definitely go neutral similar to the bit of rug you can just see in your first pic. With curtains I tend to favour ones in a similar colour to the walls so if she goes for a teal shade on the walls then the curtains in your second pic would be fab. You can still have colourful patterned curtains with a neutral wall colour, but it can be too much of a statement, I feel? In the last pic they have teamed similar curtains with dark walls.

Thanks Brandi. Would you stick with the bluey green colour for walls and carpet? or have off white walls and a carpet that ties with the background colour of the curtains? The key thing I'm concerned about is maximising the light. Thanks

@colourhappy hadn't thought of that, sounds like a good compromise and will reflect the light more than carpet
