What type of wood/finish for furniture for this room?

Have recently painted both bedrooms and now need to consider that furniture to get. As you can see we've gone for greys and will add some accent colours (pink & orange).

What kind of wood/finish would you recommend?

I love the colours! I would go for mid century furniture, so medium dark wood. Would look stunning! Or, for brightly coloured ones or even antiques painted black. Let us know, I would love seeing the results! X

Hello everyone, Sorry that I didn't reply before. Believe or not, it's been almost 2 months without internet. I moved to the new flat and it is just amazing. I had a problem with the curtains, blinds, etc. I couldn't fit any of it because the rail would be where the door opens (ceiling), so I would loose over 40cm throughout the whole window. So I've choose something a bit unusual but very, very beautiful: duette blinds. About the furniture, we've decided to do a bar/shelve unit behind the sofa and the sofa will be looking toward the window (if you know what a mean). In front of the sofa, I will do a small tv unit. Therefore, I will not loose all the beautiful view that I've got. What do you think? Now I need to plan a bar/shelve unit behind the sofa. The designer gave me some ideas, but I found it very square-ish.... I really appreciate all the comments and the help. You all are good at it and have helped me a lot. How do you actually get to the seating area? Looks like you would have to climb over the sofas! I think I’d move the table against the far wall and have it as a peninsula for the kitchen with a seat on each side. Then spread the sofas out a bit. I personally would keep the tv where it is. As who would watch tv when you can stare out to sea :)

Catching up on this thread! Thanks for all the replies. Always really good advice. @petersmummy thanks! Yeah I'm maybe overthinking what to put on the table haha. Feels like the consensus is to put a rug under the table. @Resh Thanks! Different opinions are always welcome :) I think you are probably right. It is wood overload. I've went back and forth a few times on painting the windows and panels. I think I ultimately will paint it white to brighten the room, freshen the finish and match the skirting and door. It's just difficult to bring myself to paint over it. Complementing with a different colour could be tricky I think. I'm not so keen on painting the floor or the table. The floor is the same in all the other rooms so I think that keeps things cohesive. The top of the table needs refinished so I could choose a different wood stain. Your home looks amazing!! It's great! I do actually like colour I'm just not sure how to use it haha. @minnie101 wow that was a while ago! But I got some great advice from you and others that I eventually got round to doing. Thanks for your help! :) I remember how it looked when I first went to view the place. I think its going in the right direction thanks to the help from you guys! (attached some photos) Thanks for the photoshop pictures! They are really helpful to see how it might look. Yeah I think there probably is room for a circular or oval rug. The ceiling light I will likely replace with one of the suggestions above - a brass mobile/sputnik style chandelier. Those wall lamps are pretty awesome! They look great. Would have to be fitted fairly high so people can still use the space behind the sofa to walk to the dining area. I don't have much in the way of art so far. I have a print of this on the left hand side of the fireplace. Even though it is a fair size it looks a little small on the wall to me next to the surround and large mirror. I'll check that site out thanks. Vases look awesome! I'll give that a go.

Removing existing pine floorboards, installing plywood and re-installing old pine floorboards would be very unpractical and you would end up with an old pine floor. Then of course you need to sand it, fill the gaps and finish the pine boards. It will be time consuming and expensive. Unless you really like the style of old pine floorboards, I think you should go for a new floor. You can chose between a variety of different styles, colour and materials. If want to go for parquet I suggest to use small herringbone or like 90x360mm or similar as longer planks will look too big in small spaces. Parquet is available in engineered wood, laminate and LVT and prices varies but start from as little as £15 sqm for laminate. Alternatively you may want to look at planks again in laminate, LVT or engineered wood with prices starting again at around £15 sqm. LVT is probably the most durable solution but the subfloor i.e. your old pine boards must be very flat and sound. Engineered wood and laminate both herringbone/chevron and planks can be installed either glued down to your existing floor or over an underlay. Both installation method will take care of draught. Consider lighter tones and the same material throughout if possible. hope this helps

I totally agree with Emanuelle regards the mid century, possibly walnut look. I would use white and/or mustard to add some highlights.
