Wall painting colour dilemma

Hi all , I would appreciate advice on how to furnish this apartment of mine . I am just having the rug fitted with a kind of greyish colour . I am hoping to leave the sofa chairs as they are ,but the only problem I have is how to decorate this living room and what colour of paint to use ( basically I met a pink wall on it but I tried to paint with dulux magnolia ( one coat )but the wall seems to to change at all . It is just a lighter shade of the pink . I would like suggestions please. As I am not very good with decorating and choosing the best colours .Thanks all

Hi. The room looks quite light. Which way does it face? An olive may be nice with your sofas. You could go paler on the walls and a darker shade for the chimney breast. Olive works well with grey so would consider painting the fire surround charcoal. One coat unfortunately is not one coat.. There may also be a bit of a reflection from your sofa

I'd say if the house is only 25 years old then, in today's terms it's still modern, Therefore, most people will have chosen to paint the woodwork by now. But, hey, it's your choice! Period homes is where you are most likely to see remnants of original woodwork. However, a lot of those get painted now if not all of it, in the most part as it's a dark colour and today's trend is for lighter paintwork on the whole.

The French Grey from Little Green does look pretty grey - . I find Portland Stone from LG warmer, more of a greige colour - could work with the little mosaic that seems to have grey and beige in it. It's prolly worth painting A4 samples of a couple of colours though, as just looking at the tiny rectangles on a paint chart are too small to decide.

I like the pic you've just put up, based on Minnie's idea! I like the way it widens the room having the colour connected to the base cabinets. The darker background to the TV also helps it blend in and the lighter colour on the chimney really highlights the fireplace which looks very pretty.

Such an interesting room full of gorgeous pictures and books. I love books! Now colours that I think would look lovely with your blue curtains are the soft pastels - green, pink and pale yellow, but you want a deep cosy colour so let’s move on! I’m a little bit obsessed with dirty pinks at the moment, a world away from Barbie pink so don’t panic. Colours like F&B Setting Plaster or Little Greene’s Dorchester Pink, or Blush which is much darker and cosier. I also like deep stone colours such as LG Roman Plaster, or if you wanot to go even darker, Silt looks nice, very organic tones. I’ll try and find some pics. I’ve no idea how to photoshop, but I’m sure someone will!

Can you not remove the picture rail, that would then raise the ceiling height? If not I'd be tempted to use 'natural calico' or thereabouts on the ceiling and above the rail. Below this you could use a yellow, something like 'Babouche' F&B, a beautiful colour. I wouldn't have a feature wall though, with the picture rail and fire surround you,have enough going on already. Nice size window and room though, good luck.

It is simpler just to paint the wall in one colour over the rail. Taking it off produces a ridge to be filled, not easy!
